Veronica Mars: The Movie?

From Ausellio comes word of tentative steps towards a Veronica Mars film.
The impromptu powwow took place last week in the offices of Thomas' Hollywood-based production company [...]. "Kristen and I ran into each other, and we did discuss a Veronica movie," confirms Thomas, who says he has also had "a few conversations" with Mars executive producer Joel Silver.

"It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots on my plate," adds Thomas [...]. "But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority."
Any new Veronica Mars is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

I would love to see a Veronica Mars movie. Hopefully she will still be in college instead of the FBI so all of the characters from the show could come back.

I'm guessing they probably will do the FBI thing though. It's more "movie friendly."

Maybe William Baldwin can be her partner?

Id see it if they make it R rated. Seriously. Give it alot of sex appeal and have Veronica in a few scenes with her topless. If I knew I was gonna see her titties or atleast some good angles with her in a maids outfit bent over...maybe scooping out a criminal in disguise? Im sure they can come up with the situations. But If some of the things I mentioned are in the Movie...Count ME IN!

Given that movie adaptations of TV shows inevitably have a bigger "scope", is Veronica going to save the world? :)

Hooray!

I hope they go the Direct-to-DVD route to ensure further sequels if successful. So we won't have the same issues as with Firefly/Serenity.

 Great joke from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

I think Veronica Mars, FBI is the best idea. There are more story possibilities and it is more commercial. Besides, Kristen Bell is already 28. Better for her to play a rookie FBI agent than a college student.

Actually that sounds like a good idea. A Veronica Mars theatrical film might not do very well, but a direct to TV/DVD film might.

Oh man I would be ecstatic if this really happened. :D And yeah, I also think it would work better as a TV/DVD movie.

The webmaster who runs Neptunesite thinks a movie is a bad idea, mainly because of what happened to The X-Files: I Want To Believe.

Come on, no one thinks VM would be filmed and then released in the summer, in the middle of blockbuster season. This would be a Spring or Fall film, if it didn't go to TNT or some other cable network. And the fact that there is a fan base is still an advantage, even though it's no guarantee of a hit.

I reject the advice of Neptunesite, where they tell us to just fondly remember three seasons of VM. I have seen the 4th season presentation for Veronica Mars (where she's in the FBI; it's a bonus feature of the Season 3 DVD set), and I am all for the VM comeback.

Devil's advocate here, but who's going to pay to produce this film? The show barely averaged 3 million viewers over its 3-year run. I just don't see film execs forking over the money to make this film, especially after 2 years. How well do the VM DVDs sell? Is there really a demand for this movie outside of Ausiello and the hardcore fans?

Warner Bros., of course. They're the studio that produced the series. Did you think fans were planning to seek donations to pay for the film?

Is there a demand for any movie coming out in the next couple of months? What do any of the Fall films have going for them besides stars and stories that audiences might find interesting? Veronica Mars shouldn't have to pass a unique test that wouldn't be imposed on most other movies. If Nancy Drew could be made into a movie, then why not the more sophisticated Veronica Mars?

If there's any interest in VM by the Warner Bros. bosses, it will be partly because Kristen Bell has already starred in a hit film this year (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and she's already a lead in another coming out next year. Bell is a star on the rise. It makes a future Veronica Mars project more viable.

Where does it say Warner Bros was interested in this movie? Situation seems similar to the Serenity 2 rumors. People (Ausiello) put out that there's talk and interest, and it amounts to nothing. Getting people excited about a movie that probably won't happen.

I agree with you about X-Files. Different situation all together. Never should have been released the same weekend as Dark Knight. It probably would have done better being released now, but I also understand where the Neptunesite mod is coming from. X-Files had 9 years on TV and a successful transition to the big screen.

I know how it felt every single time one of those TV gossipmongers would get the Browncoats excited about another movie and then reality would set it. No new movie. I'm not bashing VM. Been there, done that, have a mug. I just don't want you guys to get your hopes up based on a convo.

Lame. I've never even seen Veronica Mars, but what are people expecting, a slew of sequels? They'd rather have no more Veronica Mars than a good movie that can stand by itself?

Of course, I liked IWTB, so what do I know. :p
