Yeah the whole time I'm like WTF is this counter it looks like a comic book grading jumping around and then they whip out the mint comic and slowly destroy it, that was pretty hilarious.

They had a lot of funny gags, but the timeline jumping made it really hard to keep track of what was happening when. People complained about SGU's first episode going back and forth...this was worse!

Yeah, Mr. Light beat me to it: it seemed that the Pulp Fiction-style jumps were just one complicated way to set up the CGC joke... which is pretty funny nonetheless :)

Was it me, or did they try to cram waaaay too much in? I didn't feel that the episode had a very good narrative and seemed to be an hour episode cut down into 20 minutes.

I think the time jumps helped contribute to the feeling that we missed quite a bit despite all the info crammed (for instance, how did Orpheus end up in that ceremonial garb? Sure, it was a joke on Indiana Jones, but still).

As well, once we saw the Six Million Dollar Man and Bigfoot with Brock, that was a major "cramming too much graham" moment for me.

Yeah, that theory has been around since the end of season one, but it has been pretty much disproved at this point.

Not really. Internally, there's very little known about the boys' conception. OSI could have impregnated Myra with Brock 2.0 to ensure her follow-on would be loyal to the Venture family. Or Venture might have collected Brock's DNA at the university as part of his graduate research.

Externally, the creators said that Hank is a clone of Brock years ago. They might have changed their minds since then, but I don't know if they've said anything publickly.

The boys were around before Brock lived with the Ventures. Rusty and Brock knew each other, but only for a little bit before Brock got kicked out.

Plus, if memory serves, Rusty isn't really a doctor (he left school before he could complete it), so he never went to graduate school.

The scenarios you present are giant leaps that assumes things that haven't been suggested yet in the show. In short, it is a bit of a stretch to think that Hank was cloned from Brock. It isn't impossible for them to reveal that later down the line, but I think at this point, it is unlikely.

I love that about him; everytime someone asks him about his degree, he simply dismisses the issue and moves right along.

Also did they just totally retcon Hunter Gather...and does he have female parts still?

Either that or HG is packing a rather large sock.....

HG is also missing the breast implants as well, so maybe the same doctor kept His junk and then re-attached it....

Either way HG is totally committed to the Job. Or need commting to an institution.

Hank=Brock clone/son

I don't think so...last season they shown that Hank and Dean were born before Brock became the Venture's bodyguard.

Yeah, that theory has been around since the end of season one, but it has been pretty much disproved at this point. However, that doesn't mean that they can't find a way to retcon that if they so choose.

we have no idea what the hell happened with Hank & Dean's mom to make her go completely nuts

Good to see they can still mine Jonny Quest for jokes, Helper's spider body and the Bandit-esque dog.

Shore Leave is also part of Sphinx?! His christianity bit was just a cover?

The post credits part was too vital to the plot to be such. Or maybe I'm misremembering, usually those bits were sort of incidental.

The rare comic book winds up being used to wipe Sgt. Hatred's ass. "You've been using the toilet this whole time?" (That was probably the funniest bit.)

I liked it, especially as it came together toward the end, but wonder if a more conventional narrative progression would not have served the story a lot better.

The fact that it is unconventional is what makes it a Venture style story.

Assuming that is the boy's mom. The show has never been quite clear on that (probably intentionally so).

IRC, the math works out-- from the various clues dropped through out the series, but that means dick all. Back when the show started, Dr. Girlfriend was a fan fav to be the boy's mother and they squashed that one.

I know they said at one of the comic cons that the boys had a real mother, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Yes, the math does work out, and I am inclined to believe that she is the mother. The thing is that it hasn't been directly stated and the writers, according to the commentaries, are not even sure themselves!

You know how it goes: They'll look for the biggest "What the fuck!" they can pull and it'll end up being that person with a bit of screwball super-science thrown in for good measure. And remember there is a supercomputer caller "mother" under the compound, they can always pull a Demon Seed moment and have MOTHER (or is it MUTHER) be the boys mother.

The only thing I don't want revealed is the reason the Monarch if arching Venture. Cause there's no way in hell that the "real" reason is as funny or good as some of the stuff that's come up on messageboards, and it's bound to be a let down.
