Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

I'm just taking the Western/rodeo as sarcastic, because it sure sounded that way. Am I mad you're not using my cool title? No way, I know the book'll be great no matter what the book is called (even "Worst Trek Book Ever").

As for RtW, can I just say *&^%$£"£$%^&*&%£&*$& to Amazon UK. I've been waiting six weeks to get it delivered and then the carrier refuses to change my address cos no one's gonna be home and sends the books back, so Amazon have to issue a refund and I have to reorder the books!

Curses be upon them all!!!

I'm very much hoping for a non-storm-related title for the next Vanguard book. The two we had were a nice fit, but a third would be a bit much of a pattern (not to mention a rut ;)).

I honestly didn't mean it to sound that way. One of my scarce few solo fiction credits is a Western (basically) and I enjoy goofing around with that genre. And I really did think there was something about the title that evoked ideas for me of riders on the range and herding cattle through dust storms and busting broncos and that sort of thing. Had I wanted to sound sarcastic, I would have come up with something much more crass, like using that title for a story about someone's first experience on a Sybian.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

Finished this book last night and really enjoyed it. It was nice to get some of the plot-lines clarified and tied up, but was also excited about how the book ended on a cliff-hanger. I suppose the best compliment I can give it is that I constantly looked forward to going back to the book when I put it down after finishing a chapter or section.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

Another thing occurred to me that I didn't bring up in my original post: the Apostate and the Wanderer seemed familiar somehow and I realized that their battles were reminiscent of certain posters here on the BBS, who duked it out in TNZ in a similarly epic style. Was this similarity intentional or coincidence?

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

^ Coincidental. The inspiration for the conflict among the Shedai can be attributed to John Milton's Paradise Lost. Basically, I looked at that classic narrative and wondered, "What if it had ended differently?"

I think the next book should be called Star Trek: Vanguard: Jammed with Big-Ass Laughs.

I don't wanna read a book with the words jammed and big-ass in the title. :wtf:

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

my copy arrived today!

haven't started reading it yet cuz i was at work when it arrived and the 2-year wait for U2 has driven me to read that first

What he said.

Such a story would demand full audio-visual presentation.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I just finished (finally, after having Reap The Whirlwind for a few weeks now) it last night.

Oh. My. Freaking. Fek'lhr.

I was completely not disappointed at all. I was never much of a TOS fan, but RtW definitely ranks way the hell up on my list of favorite books. Way the hell up there. I generally don't say this, but I literally could not put this down. If I even thought about it, I'd feel this tingling in my fingertips and I'd read ahead further.

Excellent, excellent, excellent work.

(Now it's off to read Grand Designs (which I picked up today!) and Ms.)

^ Thrilled to hear you had a can't-put-it-down experience. :)

Thanks for your comments!

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

I finished reading Read the Whirlwind last weekend. I have to say it was very good and it makes me want to find out what happens next. Nice job David.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

finished today.

BRILLIANT. loved it. loved 'randall' and 'dante'. Vanessa was very 'Willow' at times. i certainly saw Alyson in my head.

jaw-droppping conclusion, can't wait for book 4. MORE NOW!!

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind excerpt is up

one question: did you coreograph the entire Sten/T'Prynn fight for the purposes of the writers getting it all the same for the 'katra attacks'?
