Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

I just realized that I've not been pronouncing it Shed-eye, but Sheh-dye - like Jedi, as Christopher noted.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

^ That's it! Though maybe with a little more of an 'e' where the 'uh' is.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

The vowel sound in the first syllable is a schwa, for which I lack an upside-down "e". But sure, I guess you could say it's somewhere between "sheh" and "shuh", depending upon one's pronunciation.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

very much looking forward to RTW.VANGUARD feels like TREK being done by HBO. none too perfect people ,vaguely adult treatment of situations and consequences and no reset button .in fact ,most unlike the protecters of a cash cow

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

^ That's exactly how I like to think of it, in fact --- HBO-style Star Trek.

And as for Marc's comment a couple posts up... yes, that's intentional. Readers of RtW might notice a certain "Old Testament" quality to the presence of the Shedai, and those of you familiar with Milton's Paradise Lost might see some notable parallels (and inversions), as well.

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

is it just me or has space become too safe? i know i know the borg jem hadar etc. but have you ever seen a TNG redshirt gobbled by a bug eyed monster? do starfleet even visit strange new (unpopulated) worlds anymore? GOD knows i,m not bloodthirsty but every now and then sci-fi needs to loosen up and remember its roots .i love the intigue around VANGUARD base but please do not let the story resolve into some "meaningful" search for mutual understanding. some aliens should just want to kick the tar out of you

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

^ This is actually the fifth time I've been asked in three days.

I like the idea of Vanguard as an HBO version of Star Trek. It feels a lot like a cross between Band of Brothers and Forbidden Planet with a veneer of Where No One Has Gone Before - in short, everything I love in fiction. :)

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Hey David,

Why not pitch this to HBO? It would be the best Trek series since TNG. :).

Well then get Paramount to do it.

Yeah, sure, Marc. I'll just call up CBS Television and they'll jump to fulfill my desire and sell Star Trek Vanguard to their competitors at Time-Warner. After that, I'll make a phone call to the nice people at Citibank and ask them to drop off a huge satchel of money, no questions asked, at my apartment. And then, on my way home, I'll swing by the Ferrari dealership, drive a car off the lot without paying for it, and stop by Scarlett Johannson's place and say, "Don't ask so many questions, Scarlett, just get in the damned car," and she will, of course, comply.

Sounds like a plan to me :D

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Of course David I was just joking around. :D

Of course Showime's always an option. :D

Re: Vanguard: Reap the Whirlwind

Or maybe FX since they seem to let their shows go pretty far. (Yes, I know there is an absolute 0% chance of this happening, but a guy can dream can't he?.)
