Vanguard on TOS Remastered!!

TrekMovie.com has just posted a preview image from the upcoming remastered edition of "The Ultimate Computer." In the original episode, the starbase seen in the opening was a reuse of Station K-7 stock footage from "The Trouble With Tribbles." Now, the remastering team has replaced it with a starbase of a verrrry familiar design:

Yes, it's Masao Okazaki's Vanguard station design! I figured they borrowed the 3D computer model from Doug Drexler.

Isn't this cool? First we had the Titan design from the books getting used in Star Trek: The Tour; now the Vanguard design from the books has been inserted into an actual episode, arguably making it canonical!

Excellent! Looks great!

Canon canon or your own personal canon? :D

Totally cool, regardless.

My only problem, is that the station seems to small. It could just be me. It
is cool to see design from the novels get more attention.

It does look smaller than the drawings in the book indicated.

Hmm, you guys are right -- it is smaller in proportion to the docked starship (presumably the Lexington) than Vanguard is shown to be in the plans. A Connie-class starship should be about as long as the lower globe is wide. It looks like they've reduced the station's linear size by half.

Okay, so it's not a Watchtower-class station, but a similar, smaller type.

Although you can't always trust comparative sizes in TOS. In both the original and remastered "Corbomite Maneuver," for instance, the cubical buoy is said to be over 100 meters on a side but is shown to be more like 15. Conversely, the Fesarius is said to be over a mile wide but looks four or five times that when it dwarfs the Enterprise.

Very cool indeed. They don't actually mention a number for that starbase, do they?

Nope. That station was never identified, but perhaps there's a label on this one like on Vanguard.

Could they have openly labelled it Vanguard if they'd wanted to? Meaning, there's no legal issues or anything like that?
