Vanguard #4?

Dayton Ward said:
Without giving too much away, there is a definite beginning/middle/end to the core storyline, with specific stories to be told within a specific number of books. That said, the concept lends itself to other stories that move away from that core storyline. So far as I know, sales are strong enough to warrant continuing the series, which is why we're currently plotting Book 4. After that? Well, it's up to the readers, I suppose.
Can you say how many books, or is it to loose a plan for any specific statements like that?

Thanks for the response. Here's to many more novels in the series.

Yes, long live Vanguard! I'm still working my way through book 3 with plenty others to tide me over so I'm not in a rush. :)

It hasn't been given a specific schedule slot, but the fourth Vanguard novel will be out in 2009 some time, written by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore.

Thank you for the quick response, KRAD. I had forgotten you writers come here! I've really enjoyed your work over the past few years. Is there any plan to sequelize AOTF? Nan Bacco rules.

Never say never but KRAD has said it did not sell well enough for a sequel.
:(

Fortunately the first three Vanguard-Books are currently translated into German and will be published throughout Spring and Summer.

Good news as I haven't see many German Star Trek books in the last few years. They seem to pick out the best ones and translate them. Where did you get that news anyway?

I still say someone over there has been holding back on how many they've sold. AOTF was one of the best ST books ever written in forty years.

^ I have my fingers crossed for mondo sales on V4, because I really want to write V5. One thing at a time, though, I suppose. I have to finish the trilogy first, my original novel second, and then maybe I'll get to play with the Vanguard characters again.

Man, linear time is such a drag sometimes. It's just one damned thing after another....

Okay folks, you heard the man: you now have your stocking stuffers for X-mas 2009, copies of Vanguard 4 for the whole family. Teachers, put it on the mandatory reading list for you classes.

Sadly, quality and popularity are not the same thing.

If they were, Firefly would be well into its sixth season by now, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians or A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila would be unheard of.

(And, for that matter, TOS would not have been cancelled after only three seasons!)

Absolutley love Vanguard.
Whether it's the TOS milieu or the HBO style of treating the characters,Vanguard has leapt to the top of my lists.

It's interesting to try visualize the uniform styles and colours along with the TOS-tech.It kinda makes you wonder if the new movie will capture the "feel".

2009. Good God. That hurts.

I was barely able to make it a year... Now we need to wait 2 years.

Unlike others I didn't complain at waiting a year, but I can't help being *VERY* disappointed at this news.

Patrick

Well, look at it this way, 2007 is all but over, so it's really only a year. :bolian:

And... isn't there a Mirror Universe short story collection coming out in 2008 that will feature stories through the rest of the TrekLit ranges? There's always hope for a Vanguard MU story. :)

Well, halfway there: I've never heard of either of those! (But my Firefly DVD box set is still as slim as ever...) :(

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It's possible that Vanguard will get a tangential mention or something in the Destiny books. The co-creator of the series is writing them, after all.

Yeah, the third MU collection is due around April (Happy birthday to Me!!).

I don't know if Vanguard will be a part of it, but considering that the Mirror universe was the single greatest thing that ever happened to Star Trek, I can only hope.

I do know that it won't be a complete mirror verision like the Enterprise crew, because I remeber in the Spock story that Admiral Spock (or maybe he was Emporer by then) shut down the Vanguard project in that universe. Of course, that doesn't mean that some of the characters can't appear in other capacities.

Plus, it's also been said that "it will involve elements from Trek's past". So I'm assuming that would probably be either TOS or ENT era elements.
