Vanguard #4?

It hasn't been given a specific schedule slot, but the fourth Vanguard novel will be out in 2009 some time, written by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore.

2009. Good God. That hurts.

I was barely able to make it a year... Now we need to wait 2 years.

Unlike others I didn't complain at waiting a year, but I can't help being *VERY* disappointed at this news.

I doubt a slot will open up before then, given that 2008 has been pretty well planned out. There's also the not insignificant fact that the book's not even written yet, and only exists as an outline and a flurry of unfocused thoughts in mine and Kevin's heads. :)

Thank you for the quick response, KRAD. I had forgotten you writers come here! I've really enjoyed your work over the past few years. Is there any plan to sequelize AOTF? Nan Bacco rules.

Good things are always the hardest for which to wait. I supremely enjoyed STT and can't wait to see what you all have in store.

^ Thanks very much for the kind words. Writing for the Vanguard series has been some of the most fun I've had writing, for Trek or anything else. We're looking forward to getting back to that big beautiful station in the near future.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that Margaret Clark said that TOS is being left alone due to the movie? I know it isn't TOS, but I could still see not wanting to do anything at all during that timeframe until after the movie.

All I was told was that other initiatives in play for 2008 (Destiny, Teror Nor, etc.) resulted in Vanguard being bumped to 2009. Bear in mind that this was several months ago (before Shore Leave, in fact). I imagine that the notion of leaving TOS alone out of respect for the new film factored in later, though.

One of these days, someone will have to remind me to offer my views on the whole "Watch me correct other people's spelling mistakes in front of God and everybody" thing. You'll love it.

I know it's been a while since Marco has posted, and I remember he used to share how many printings books would go to, etc. Obviously there is demand for more Vanguard books, but I'm curious how successful the series has been for Pocket Books. Are we likely to see it for a while to come? Count me in as a big fan of this series.

Dayton, why don't you remind us of your views on the whole "Watch me correct other people's spelling mistakes in front of God and everybody" thing.

*Grabs the popcorn*

Without giving too much away, there is a definite beginning/middle/end to the core storyline, with specific stories to be told within a specific number of books. That said, the concept lends itself to other stories that move away from that core storyline. So far as I know, sales are strong enough to warrant continuing the series, which is why we're currently plotting Book 4. After that? Well, it's up to the readers, I suppose.

^ I have my fingers crossed for mondo sales on V4, because I really want to write V5. One thing at a time, though, I suppose. I have to finish the trilogy first, my original novel second, and then maybe I'll get to play with the Vanguard characters again.

Man, linear time is such a drag sometimes. It's just one damned thing after another....

Fortunately the first three Vanguard-Books are currently translated into German and will be published throughout Spring and Summer, so in terms of Vanguard I will have something to (re)read, and actually I'm really looking forward to compare the German and English versions. But nonetheless, waiting until 2009 is a damn long time (At least for us fastidious Trek-Fans ;))
