Vancouver Olympics Discussion

Patriotism isn't a good thing

My point is that Canada has an inferiority complex in relation to the US, and I don't think we need to. I love my country!

Well said. :techman:

Canada has advanced to the semis in the men's parallel snowboard!

I love Canada too, but why are we slipping into "tell-everyone-else-in-the-world-that-our-country-is-the-best-at-everything" routine? That's not necessary. Incessantly boasting that you are the best "something" in the world to others is arrogant, plain and simple.

I'm glad that we are doing so well in the medal count... I have a lot of pride in us being host to the Olympics. I just don't think we have to be dicks about it.

Of course... this may not apply to tomorrow's men's hockey game USA vs CAN. That's a deep rooted phenomenon of a rivalry. Can't wait! :D

Not unless you're competing at home.

I don't think Own The Podium will carry on in its present form by 2014, but a reasonable medal count there would still be good.

I honestly don't know where your getting that idea from

Again, I don't know where you get that from, but EVERY country does that in their sport of specialty. Perhaps with the olympics in Canada, you're hearing more than usual from the commentators?

Canada are the anti-dicks. We don't do sour grapes when we lose. If I could understand Korean, I bet they were pretty 'dick' like when they got disqualified and lost their gold in the ladies relay.

Indeed! Something we can agree on :p

No, there are two runs. Once on each on each side of the course to make it as fair as possible.

eta: now he's through. ;)

Gold for the Canadian team pursuit, excellent race, very exciting.

eta: no gold for that douchebag Hedrick this time. :)

Incredible, the Germans get the gold. THis was one of the best competitions in the entire Olympic Games this year imo.
