Vance's Schematics II

Nelson Class Scout
FASA Design Subtype

I would love to see someone do a 3D model of the Phase II starship Union, only with just 2 nacelles and the secondary hull turned around so the hangar faces the rear.

Another possibility for the Union design would be to eliminate the saucer and the third nacelle, reverse-orient the tubular hull, and call it a starfrigate or a superscout.

Has anyone ever done a phase II version of the Miranda, Ptolemy, Decatur/Belknap or the Daedalus?

A thought occurred to me: would the Federation build a container pod like the ones above that could serve as a multi-purpose deep space mission module?

I always wondered if the Federation would use Ptolemy class tugs (or other tugs, like my Yellowknife concept) to haul a "shuttle carrier pod" to deep space. This would make the tug into a large, armored shuttle carrier. Or the tug could simply jettison the pod in orbit around a star or planet, the pod would deploy solar arrays for energy, and become a self-sufficient space station. Multiple pods could be used a building blocks to construct easy-to-assemble, prefab starbases.

Star Fleet Battles took the concept of FJ's pods and ran with them. They include mini-science stations, all the up to makeshift starbases. They, of course, don't perform as well as a dedicate ship/base of the same type, but they can be deployed in a hurry.

Jackill also included some specialized pods designed to carry very large components, such as secondary hulls, to shipyards or spare nacelles to a ship that had to jettison one. I once was curious about the idea of modifying a pod into a large scale warhead, which the tug could then release - sort of an emergency or last ditch weapon.

Nice work! But on those containers that have impulse engines, wouldn't parts of those engines be visible in the front view?
