Vance's Schematics II

Wingsley said:
The one fatal flaw in starship designs like Drake and the Federation-class "dreadnoughts": where the secondary hull has a forward-facing hangar bay topside is that there's very little room, if any, for a turbolift tube to pass from the saucer section into the bowels of the secondary hull without passing through or directly alongside the forward hangar bay. Maybe the forward dish and hangar should be switched.

Unfortunately, with it being someone else's ship, that's a pretty substantial change in the design. Though, if you look, there's just enough room for the turbo lift to hit the operations center for the hangar bay without going into the bay itself. It's a tight fit, but it works.

I assume the Wizard was a prototype, because of the NX? I'd like the Drake better if the nacelles were in a different position; I don't really like when they're at the top while a giant secondary hull hangs below.

The nine Wizard class ships were designed as testbeds for engine and weapons systems, hence the NX. It's from Stardate #8.

Looks to me like the Drake would look good if the nacelle pylons extended out of a pod-like engineering section built directly onto the top of the secondary hull, from the base of the dorsal-pylon and reaching aftward, kinda like the setup on Karim Nassar's take on the Daedalus.

Great work, Vance. It is nice to see your designs up and going again. Keep up the great work. ;)

plus i too like the Harakawa it just looks like a very useable design :). where did you get the name for it from?

The Harakawa's name also came from Bill Colley. I'm not sure where he got it from.

and Good Work on the Wizard Class :) Much better than the Oringinal design pics :)

Thanks. For that ship, that was the goal! The Solumnus is going to be a greater challenge, though...

Just round out the aft of the saucer (doesn't need to be broken up) and de-evolve the compenents a little, and you could have a better-designed NX-01.

You're not the first person to have said that, but I'm not sure if I want 'go there', as it were, with the NX-01. I know the NX looks like a TNG ship (for several reasons), but I'm loathe to do much re-invisioning beyond what I've already done.

Everyone else, thanks for the kind words! I'm going to do my best in the next few days to get caught up to where I wanted to be. :)

i forget was the Adamant class done yet?

and when are going to see Excelsior class based designs?

Oh I loved this TOS Design  the only thing i thought it would need was something like a TOS version of the Nebula clas Tactical pod in the back (just a idea for a kitbash ;) )

but ok to the point... Great Work Vance I'm impressed on how you did the Sarda class here

man, the federation just can't help but hack up perfectly good saucers, can they? :)

Not yet.. that one makes me cry. :) Seriously, though, I just haven't gotten around to a lot of the TMP requests yet. I'm getting them piecemeal as I clean up and archive my old TOS archive.

and when are going to see Excelsior class based designs?

Probably when I can take the time out do redo the Excelsior's saucer. Not too far in the distant future, though.

Call me crazy but the Sarda class looks vaguely Klingon D7-ish to me.

I agree i thought the same thing when i first saw that model kit :klingon:

and which Trek novel is this other Galaxy Class from?

The novelizations of TWOK and TFSF mention the class, and a couple of other novels made in that time also reference it. The drawing is based on descriptions found from various fan-guides, et al.

Some cool stuff here. I can't wait to learn a little more on Blender so I can give some of these a try in 3D!
