Van Halen Returns!

I remain cautiously optimistic about the VH record and tour. I think the record will probably be decent. We'll see about the tour.

As someone who is old enough to remember VH back in their 80's glory days, I have to say that they were an awesome band - and one that was supremely fun to watch because, despite all that talent (particularly that of EVH, although Alex was actually one of the most underrated drummers in rock, IMO), VH never took themselves too seriously - at least not during that time. I loved Diamond Dave - he was such a goob! Sort of like the Shatner of the top shelf 80's hard rock band frontmen. There wasn't ANYTHING that guy wouldn't do for attention. Truly, that band in the 1980's, more than any other, 'lived the rock star dream' of sex, drugs and rock & roll. They are suffering for that today...but no one can say those guys didn't have a crapload of fun in the 80's.

Those videos off of 1984 in particular are made of awesome, and I remember watching Hot For the Teacher, Jump and Panama (my personal favorite) many, many times on MTV. Great tunes, and VH videos were always good for a huge laugh. Dave was just hilarious...and as good as Sammy Hagar was, for me, it wasn't as fun without Dave. Eddie was always adorable and amazingly talented...but for sheer ham and cheese power, no one could touch Diamond David Lee Roth. No one.

I have my fingers crossed for VH. I hope they have a big success.

A lot of news has come out in the last couple of days.

The new Van Halen album will be titled: A Different Kind of Truth. It will be released Feb. 7th.

They will be touring North America from February to June.

Tour dates, track listings, and other tidbits can be found here:

I am aiming for a June show in Northern California. Here's hoping it doesn't suck.

Time to start pinching pennies then. :techman: Guys...don't let me down with this album. You rock. Please...don't fuck this up.

Roth rattles Van Halen show
  • Stadium rockers Van Halen bravely took their act to teeny club Cafe Wha? on [New York City's] MacDougal Street on Thursday night, to kick off a highly anticipated reunion tour — and their first album with singer David Lee Roth since 1984.

But unpredictable Roth — who famously feuded with guitarist Eddie Van Halen and the band — went on a rambling rant at the start, and some of the 250 guests became nervous that the group was headed for another split before their eyes....

So my 9 year old son was in the kitchen today making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and he was singing....

"I think of all the education that I missed,
But then my homework was never quite like this!"

I'm looking at him and I asked "Where did you learn that song?"

"Glee"

I feel for you on that one.

May 7 at Rodgers Arena, but its awful, to me going to see Roger Waters the wall, which I`m really looking forward too.

Awful?

I'm going on the 11th.

Interesting.. No Albuquerque date.. However, there is a four day break between Phoenix and Dallas in June, so perhaps they're just trying to secure a venue.

I find it hard to believe that they would skip the city that gave them two of their fastest sell out shows in 1984. The first show sold out so fast that they had to add a second night.

Not a huge VH fan and never have been, but even I am interested to see how this plays out.

the Van Halen FB page is actually pretty good for stuff about this as well, as it actually has posts by the band members regularly appearing there :)

That song's a hell of a lot better than I had dared to hope. Much better than any of the new material that appeared on either of the band's 'best of' compliations.

She's The Woman is (I think) the only song from the demo VH-Zero that wasn't redone on any of their albums.

It's a pretty cool song too, I have all the .mp3's from that demo.

Tattoo isn't a bad song. Although it's really missing Michael Anthony's backing vocals.

^^ Wow.. No kidding... There were a few moments in that song where I was really hoping to hear a high harmony, especially during the chorus... Damn

Overall, it's ok.. It's got the same time signature that was refined during the Van Hagar era.. Destinctly VH, but not that of the Roth era..
