I think Cruise is poorly cast in this movie, that has an otherwise excellent cast.

I think it possible that ZZYFRX will have his first FLOP thread of 2009 handed to him on a silver platter.
Oh, geez. I love the internet. So quick to criticize, just because some fanboys didn't like Superman Returns. 
Word on the street is the film is superb. The script -- written by Oscar winner Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) -- has been getting huge kudos. The rest is incredible (Kenneth Branagh, Terrence Stamp, Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson), and the film is being directed by a proven and talented filmmaker, regardless of what any of you thought of Superman Returns (and to say that this nonobjective criticism towards the film is not fueled by that in any sort of way is kind of...well, misleading

The film won't be a huge blockbuster success, but it is not a blockbuster. It is a character-driven thriller which happens to star a huge celebrity. I think the film will be very good, and that's all that matters. I look forward to spring 2009.

What I love is how you can't even voice low expectations without somebody rolling their eyes and whining about fanboyishness and trying to sound like the voice of reason by becoming the "anti-critic". My low expectations are due to one factor - Tom Cruise. I didn't even realize singer was involved and I liked superman returns.
I picture a lot of jokes coming out of this one. Expect that image to show up on SNL Weekend Update and The Daily Show/Colbert Report.

I hope it is a good movie. I like war movies and a movie where I can root for a Nazi is similiar to me cheering on Soviet snipers in Enemy at the Gates, its not something one normally would do. I'm just skeptical at this point.
The fledgling studion needs it to be after the reported costs for it are around $100m plus the disaster that was Lions for Lambs this past fall.
They sure think it carries that weight. First release date was late summer, August 8, 2008. Then it was pushed up to June 27, 2008 thus showing they thought it was worthy to compete and succeed in the summer season, I guess as counter programming. It was then moved to October 3, 2008.
Its current slot at Presidents/Valentines Day weekend would suggest they think it blockbuster worthy. That weekend has proven quite lucrative the last few years.
I'm not only talking about just the script. Variety says the film is a "superb thriller", based on insider reports. I've read other encouraging things about the film as well.
It is not the film's job to be more than what it is. To expect a blockbuster out of it is wishful thinking. Besides, it's the studio's fault that they even expected Lions for Lambs to do well. It had "pedestrian drama" written all over it.
They've delayed it simply because of accidents on the set where tons of footage was lost and destroyed. They had to reshoot many scenes. Which they're still doing.

my mistake
The final three scenes huh? What were the production problems again? I know that the Germans attempted to halt the production becuase of Tom Cruise's practice of scientology and I think that I heard there were some set fires or something. It seems like it could be an interesting film. Wasn't there a teaser trailer for it or am I thinking about "Lions for Lambs"? The cast is great...I'll probably go see it because I'm a Bryan Singer fan as well as a Tom Cruise fan even though he's all about Scientoglogy.
I think the film will be killed by a horribly miscast Tom Cruise. It's a film that has everything going for it, except for two things. First, the curse of English speaking Germans. I mean, really, if you want to do a film about these guys, couldn't you do it in German? Second, and I already said it, Tom Cruise sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the cast. Totally wrong for the part from what I've seen. I'll withhold final judgment until after it comes out, though.
Tom doesn't look German at all. The trailer I have seen looks absolutely terrible.
I have no problem with Cruise..he is good and resembles the realk guy he is playing.
But I saw a trailer and iot looks ..uh, bland as if it has a great script but feels too robotic and stilted in execution like the acting by everyone is like a high school play

Is this movie a comedy? Seriously; that looks like a promotional photo for "Hot Shots! - The Prequel".
