VALKYRIE - Feb 13, 2009 - Cruise to shoot final 3 scenes

Actually, I don't mind Cruise, I just ignore his off-screen antics and watch his movies. :) I didn't know Singer offered him the role, I thought this was a Cruise production and they managed to get Singer on to direct, instead of the other way around.

Chris McQuarrie and Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects duo) put the project together, brought it to United Artists for financing, and then Singer offered Cruise the role.

I like Cruise as an actor. If I were to get so petty and bullheaded that I couldn't separate the actor from the role and allow actors to, you know, act, then who could I ever watch? It'd leave us with someone like Vin Diesel who no one knows anything about... other than he's a major Dungeons and Dragons nerd.

Really looking forward to this, loved the trailer. I wonder when exactly shooting wraps, and when Singer'll be moving onto Man of Steel

Thank you.

Ok so I wasn't going crazy and I do remember seeing a trailer that's good news. Yeah this movie has been Singer's baby from the start of things and he offered Cruise the role (I don't blame him actually) as I said I'm a big Cruise fan since I too ignore all his off camera antics.

I think Singer has another project after Valkyire wraps before FINALLY moving on to "Man of Steel" I could be wrong on that though.

Well if IMDB is still correct then yes he has "You Want Me to Kill Him" as his next producing assignment. Then "Man of Steel".

He doesn't appear to have a directing gig lined up at present.

He has been developing You Want Me to Kill Him? and The Mayor of Casto Street for nearly two years now. He has also confirmed he is developing Man of Steel with the intention of directing it.

As of right now, we don't know what his next directorial project is (although the aforementioned two projects -- other than Superman -- will be directorial efforts on his part). We probably won't know until spring 2009, when Valkyrie is finished.

I'm curious though...were we all (the Superman fandom that is) under the impression that Bryan and the cast were going to leap right back into making the sequel or was that just assumption? It seems like two years without any real progress is a lot of time passed...especially since Returns was hit with so many critical responses from fans and the media. I wonder if people will return (no pun intended) to see a Singer helmed Superman film?

I won't bother with it in theaters. Because of where I live, I have to drive 90 miles to get to a theater; I made the trip for Superman Returns, but fool me twice and shame on me.

As it is, I'm likely only going to see 5 films in a theater this summer. I saw Speed Racer, Iron Man and Indiana Jones last week because I was at a convention in another city; and I'll be driving to see The Dark Knight and Hulk on the same day (assuming Hulk will still be in the theater by then).

AICN is chiming in on VALKYRIE and have posted the trailer that ran with Lions for Lambs last fall. If you haven't seen it then here is your chance. I doubt these scenes are being reshot. I think its only the ending sequences.

"Valkyrie portrait flap was mistaken photo ID"

It's a bit ridiculous how criticism has been getting heaped on this film. Personally I'm looking forward to it, and it's my understanding that Singer is just shooting additional scenes. A film like this deserves a perfectionists touch, and I'm excited that Singer's teamed up with Chris McQuarrie for this.

This movie will be a flop. Who cares? We all know the dude didnt succeed so what is the big deal?
I think its unfair to say it'll be a flop. However, it does at this point have the cards stacked against it.
Not only has Cruise's popularity been on the wan but the film has been postponed and moved around. The trailer from last fall had its share of mixed reactions with bad opinions seemingly getting heard the most frequent, or reposted at least, about the 'net.

Its an uphill battle for sure.

Yep, it seems like the negative press has been heard much more loudly than the good. I generally pride myself on knowing the latest film news, and that news story about the photo incident being a non-incident was almost nowhere to be found.

Still, I enjoyed the trailer, I like the cast (Stephen Fry and Eddie Izzard?! Amazing.), and I'm glad that German accents weren't enforced because so often it feels forced. Looking forward to more info in the coming months.

Oh, geez. I love the internet. So quick to criticize, just because some fanboys didn't like Superman Returns.

Word on the street is the film is superb. The script -- written by Oscar winner Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) -- has been getting huge kudos. The rest is incredible (Kenneth Branagh, Terrence Stamp, Eddie Izzard, Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson), and the film is being directed by a proven and talented filmmaker, regardless of what any of you thought of Superman Returns (and to say that this nonobjective criticism towards the film is not fueled by that in any sort of way is kind of...well, misleading ;) ).

The film won't be a huge blockbuster success, but it is not a blockbuster. It is a character-driven thriller which happens to star a huge celebrity. I think the film will be very good, and that's all that matters. I look forward to spring 2009.

What I love is how you can't even voice low expectations without somebody rolling their eyes and whining about fanboyishness and trying to sound like the voice of reason by becoming the "anti-critic". My low expectations are due to one factor - Tom Cruise. I didn't even realize singer was involved and I liked superman returns.

Yes, I agree. Tom Cruise was easily the worst part of: Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, Collateral, and Minority Report. Otherwise fantastic films.

:wtf:
