V has just become AWESOME! (casting spoiler)

I just can't wait for V to return. My memory of the original, in detail, was spotty and I intentionally didn't rewatch prior to this incarnations debut. Glad I chose that path since I'm really enjoying what I've seen so far.

If the show continues with more seasons its not out of the realm of possibility we could get some stunt casting guest appearances by original V actors.

I think this is a cool casting choice. Though I still prefer the original miniseries and about half to two thirds of the final battle (I couldnt stand the weekly series) I kinda got into this new series.

I am looking forward to see how they ramp up the invasion.

I was hoping for Marc Singer, Robert Englund, or Michael Ironside coming in as John May. What better way to connect with the fans of the original V, who may feel somewhat ALIENated :rommie: by the changes made to the series. But, whatever, like Hollywood gives a shit about the option of the fans of the original series.

They said the same thing about nuBSG until Richard Hatch suddenly showed up out of nowhere and we started to get CGI recreations of 1970s-era Cylons.

That said, V should steer clear of such stunt-casting until the second season, if it gets one. Then, if they want to have Jane Badler drop by (I wouldn't complain) that would be great.

A great in-joke would be for the characters to be shown drinking Celestial Seasonings tea -- that's the company run by the former actress who played Elizabeth in the original TV series.

^I wouldn't be so quick to call Richard Hatch's role in Battlestar Galactica "stunt casting".

He played a very, very different character and was superb in the role.

Indeed. It's worth noting that, aside from a cameo by McCoy in the pilot, TNG generally steered clear of characters and aliens from TOS--until the new show had already succeeded on its own. (As I recall, Roddenberry didn't even want to use the Klingons again, but was eventually persuaded to add Worf to the cast.)

There will time enough for nostalgia if and when the new "V" finds its own audience.

Michael Ironside would have been the bomb as John May--but it's no surprise they cast Trucco, they probably need to boost their female demographic.

I'll third that. I was on the fence about nuV, but if Michael Ironside was on it, I'd be it's biggest fan.

Alas......:(

Yay! Another show Temis hates but still watches because of some good looking guy! More ammunition for me!

Sorry to disappoint one of my tragically few internet stalkers, but I don't "hate" V - it could be better - and I was planning to watch it anyway to root for it to get better because it has a solid premise and some watchable actors. Flash Forward is the ABC sci fi show I'm starting to hate and seriously think about bailing on. Maybe you got those two mixed up?

Any good casting for this show is a step in the right direction. And I'm always relieved when an actor I like doesn't end up on some frakkin' cop show that I wouldn't watch if it featured full frontal Joe Flanigan every episode. :rommie:

Nah, most shows don't have any guy hot enough to qualify. :p Or the so-called "hot" guys are just not hot by my exhalted standards (eg, Supernatural.) Or they're cop/lawyer/doctor shows where no guy is hot enough to compensate for the sheer ennui of it all.

I'd like to see Hatch on V. And no, not because he's hot. He's too old for that, but still a solid, watchable actor.

Casting alone isn't going to save this series. It's got to forge a story that is truly unique and compelling. And it hasn't come anywhere near close enough ... yet.

That's exactly the problem with it. Just having "spunky freedom fighters vs. eeevil aliens" will only getcha so far.

Are you sure you don't hate it ? Not even a little ?

You're no fun! :p

All right, just for you. I hate it a little. :rommie:

But not as much as I hate Stargate: Universe. They really frakked up on the hot-guy casting.

It ain't no picnic for us guys either. They're really not appreciating who their audience is with the whole Eli/Scott/Chloe triangle thing.

And it deftly silenced his criticisms of the new show. ;)

Hatch was worthwhile in his own right - whether it mollified the haters is beside the point. That's not a valid reason to cast an actor anyway. I want to see the best actor for the job, and if stunt casting accomplishes that, then stunt casting is good.

Not the haters, him. He was very vocally against everything the new show stood for. Until he was on the payroll, that is.

I don't care about actors' behind-the-scenes opinions (I rarely even bother to find out about them). All that matters is what makes it onto the screen. Hatch did his job admirably.

Seeing Moore hold his own at a convention of angry fans changed his mind as well as seeing the actual miniseries, no? He was offered a small role in the miniseries, but turned it down.
