I voted 'above average'. This ep is really setting up the paranoia.

Can't the V's just get hungry and chow down on Tyler? It would improve the show a lot. There would be a Shock Moment and they'd rid the show of a really annoying character.

My name is Anna. I'm the one that isn't an evil space lizard. The TV Anna has creepy nailed solid. The way she looks with her eyes makes me think of an old folk wisdom bit about how snakes could hypnotize their prey by staring at them. They can't really do that but TV Anna looks like she's going to give it a try.

Is Tory plotting to flush Liz Mitchell out the airlock? I can't help but think Tory is quite possibly another V infiltrator. It makes sense you'd plant more than one agent in a target country's security organizations...

I found it amusing that in a show that features the line "don't trust anybody" David Duchovny ( X-files secret computer password 'trustno1' ) is in a promo for anther show.

Stealth fighters dropping alien-esque cell phones. Garish murky USAF recruiting ads. Country Music Awards with their Starfleet arrowhead like logo. I have trouble telling the show from the ads sometimes. I think the ads are jarring bits of normalcy on a show that wadded up 'normal' and threw it out a fiftieth story window.

I noticed that she stares, unblinking, for long periods of time, then blinks several times in rapid succession (a sign that she's flustered?) like she hasn't quite worked out the timing of her human body. Good on the actress for developing some 'alien' body language.

Yeah, the blinking is a nice touch. I don't think it has anything to do with being flustered (as she did it while nobody was around in the pilot). It probably has to do with her alien physiology. She tends to do it when she doesn't think anybody's watching.

They're really not pacing this show like they're going on hiatus in two weeks.

Did Supergirl eat a cookie?

She almost has cheeks.

I just wonder if they're going to maintain the proper size ratio when we start seeing the Visitors in their natural form. Considering how thick their meat suits are, they're going to have to be really, really scrawny, tiny-headed, long-limbed fuckers. Probably getting a pretty good daily workout from lugging around those fat suits, too.

So what do you think this "original resistance" was? Will the leader of the original resistance show up played by Marc Singer and be named Tom Zarek?

Re: V: 1x02: "There Is No Normal Anymore" 11/10/09 - Grading & Discuss

The original resistance was probably their own "invasion force" rebelling against the plan. There were probably others in the rest of the fleet, too, but they were obviously quelled with ease. Which is why the ones in the invasion force are so freaked out.

Wow! I can't believe we're already at mid season!

I still think this show is moving way too fast. Though Anna is growing on me. There is something alien about the way she moves and her reactions, or maybe the angles they shoot her at that works for me. Still not as good as Diana but she's a hell of a lot more ruthless than Major Zod, from Smallville, another alien visitor. I still don't get why Wash revealed himself? It made no sense. It would've been smarter to just keep quiet and keep an eye on the FBI agent and any growing resistance. That reveal was purely for shock value, not well planned or timed at all.

I hope that Tori isn't a Visitor. My goodness, she's already been a Cylon sleeper. I would rather she just be an FBI agent committed to her job, or maybe even sympathetic to the Vs. The reporter's role is a little interesting. I thought he would knuckle under or have stars in his eyes, but he seems to be a little bit more pragmatic, but I'm sure it won't be too long before Anna has him more firmly in her clutches.

The teen thing isn't working for me, but I disagree with the poster who felt the 80s teens were annoying. Well, okay, maybe they were too to some extent, but at least it worked better or made more sense for the story. Daniel, being a loser before the alien's arrival, who finds power and identity after joining up with them, and the young girl who becomes infatuated with Brian, and their relationship leads to some of the best and momentous scenes in both V and the Final Battle.

I nodded off toward the end, was there some shocking scene or something? The last thing I remember was the mechanic telling Ryan all about his fiance. Could someone fill me in on what happened afterward?

I find myself relentlessly "meh" about the whole thing. I only remembered to watch because I saw the DVR recording it and couldn't remember what the setting was for.

They really need to strip the "V" off of this, though. It's like nuBSG was, the original in name only. The modern twists to it, with the terrorist cells and such, might be interesting in the hands of better writers. Still, it's better than the pilot. Of course, that's like saying a root canal is better than open heart surgery, but still. I'm still not caring about the characters, and that's Very Bad.

And, seriously? I really want to watch a movie like ID4 on the screen at the bottom of one of the ships. Best. Movie. Screen. Ever.

This show needs some Michael Ironside. Stat!

Re: V: 1x02: "There Is No Normal Anymore" 11/10/09 - Grading & Discuss

The numbers are out, the episode got 10 million viewers, versus 13 or 14 million last week. I'm amazed they held onto so much of the audience from the pilot. Maybe most people saw the first episode and wondered, like I did, if it was just supposed to be the setup for the real story?

Watching this show, I now completely understand why ABC put it on hiatus after four episodes. If I were an ABC exec watching these episodes, I would've said "holy shit, this is awful, we're screwed". The whole thing is just... off. I can't even figure out what this show is supposed to be about at its core. I guess it's about a resistance forming to fight the Visitors, but the Visitors haven't even done anything that sinister yet.

That this show is getting great ratings just mystifies me, and I'm sure it mystifies ABC too. Now they're even more screwed, because they only have four episodes of their highest rated new show in the can, and no plans to film more anytime soon.

Re: V: 1x02: "There Is No Normal Anymore" 11/10/09 - Grading & Discuss

Okay, I guess I know nothing about ratings, Hollywood Reporter is calling this a "steep" dropoff from last week. But it's still doing well.

http://www.thrfeed.com/2009/11/abc-v-ratings-second-episode-.html

The second "V" hour was seen by 10.6 million viewers and drew a 3.7 preliminary rating among adults 18-49, down 29% from last week. That's the largest fall from a premiere we've seen for a scripted show this season.

The rating is still a successful number for a freshman drama. If "V" can remain anywhere close to this neighborhood, the show will be fine.

You know what would have made this episode an awesome episode?

Where was Lou Dobbs talking about the aliens coming to steal our jobs?

Too bad it's not on Fox then maybe Glenn Beck could have went all crazy ass and appeared ;)

Anna's Right Hand Lizard as he has been called here reminds me of a similiar character from the original V. He was the guy overseeing the work at the factories, and was always with Donovan's mother in the Final Battle mini.

Re: V: 1x02: "There Is No Normal Anymore" 11/10/09 - Grading & Discuss

My only problem is what others have been saying: The story is going way too fast. The concepts are all fine if not great, but the execution is ridiculous.

There's simply no time to get invested in the characters. At all. I can't even think of a single character's name other than Anna, and that's not a good sign.

The kid is a great example. "See, this kid's a loser. BAM! He's now got confidence and a sense of right and wrong, but we the audience know it's misplaced! Character development, bitches! Okay, next we have..."

Going too slow isn't a good thing, as we see in Flash Foward, but Jesus. Take your foot off the accelerator if you want anyone to give a flying fuck about this show.

There's no time for the "America turns fascist" process too. The fascination takes time. And most definitely not here.
