USS Valhalla - Third time is the charm?

I really like this design. It's a fresh perspective to the TOSera where we have seen chop-ups of the same thing over and over.

While the idea of pylon-mounted impulse engines is very interesting and a cute nod to ENT, I had envisioned the aft tip of the "dish pods" as being used for aft torpedo banks. But that's just me.
I thought about using the deflector pods as impulse engines as well, but I figured that might be pushing the technology of that era a bit too far. There are those bulky areas near the rear where the nacelles attach, which you have to think are there for a reason. I decided I'd stick the engines on the ends of them, giving loads of internal volume for engine gubbins.

This left the central area free for the shuttlebay, and I initially thought about the bombay style drop bay as well. I soon dispensed with that idea as there was enough room for a central bay with a large rear door anyway. I toyed with the idea of a clamshell, but decided it was a bit overly complex based on the design ethic Venardhi has talked about. A simple roller door design would be much easier to build.

Progress. Side view is started but still needs a lot of work before I show it off.

I selected the outline of the TOS Ent, softened the outline a bit with refine selection and did a fill. There is nothing special about it.

Some minor changes and updates to my version today. Changed the nacelles to be tapered, added some detail to them, altered the nacelle struts, added detail to the deflector pods, gave the shuttlebay a porch and more doors, more detail to the impulse engine area and small bits here and there on the body. Not a lot more i want to add apart from small stuff liike phaser banks and things like that, and then I'll get on to fixing the textures and adding decals.

Here's my final Valhalla class, I dont want to do any more to it as TOS is usually pretty clean stuff. I added decals, etc and rebuilt the bridge as well as adding a couple of bits and pieces like phaser banks and engine things. The main addition is that, since its so small, I made the windows clear and built detailed rooms on the inside. You dont see much in pictures, but it should look cool in animations. I rebuilt the bridge so that i could stick a conference room behind it a la TNG, complete with TOS triangular conference table and screens. I'll stick it up on my website for download in the next day or two.

Yeah, what they said.^ Looks like a tough little ship. Though isn't she supposed to have torpedo launchers? And how long of a production run was the Valhalla supposed to have? Because a registry in the late 900's would suggest a production run long after the Romulan War ended, and decades after the formation of the Federation. I'm guessing no earlier than the very late 22nd century (2190's), and maybe as late as the 2230's, probably around the same time as the Texas class light cruiser, given the similar registries.

Well, with my desktop back up and running I can actually work with some 3d again, so first step is to take an old nacelle design inspired by something I threw together for the Metaluna thread years ago and polish it up a bit to try to get me back in the swing of things.
