USS Kelvin, Speculation, in 3D!

Looks great!
Thanks! I think I am done, for now.

Here are some images...

I have all the orthos, if anyone wants them.

The shuttles are next. :)

I would be interested in the orthos of the Kelvin. Could you post them here? I am also interested in the shuttles as well. :techman:

That is beautiful! Well done.

Now, lets see about getting your ships into Star Trek Legacy.
Contact me through one of my IM's. (Check my contact info on my profile)

I'll get to the shuttles eventually. :) It's my goal for the week.

Awsome as always. What amazes me is how quick you are with these projects...good eye for capturing details out of quick-cut trailer grabs, too.
Figuring out perspective issues, etc. etc.
I also like how you've let us see the evolution of these projects from "workbench" to, essentially official orthos and views. :)

Do you have a site up with more of your work?
(or any blender tutorials, perhaps? :)

Thanks. :) I get kind of obsessive when I start one of these... I started remodeling this one last Friday afternoon, spent about 3 hours then, about 2 hours Saturday, and about 3 hours on Sunday.

I think what helps me is that I don't go for 100% accuracy, and I keep the mesh as simple as I can.

I really do need to get a web site up, since that's my other hobby. :) Know of any good free hosting sites that have reasonable size limits?

Maybe I should come up with some tutorials, but my fear is I'm doing everything wrong and backwards. :)

Totally fantastic work Madman! :techman: Thank you for posting the orthos of the Kelvin. I am truly impressed with your work. I am sure that your shuttles will be of the same fanstastic quality and accuracy. Keep up the great work!:techman:

Sorry to grab your artwork for my own evil purposes, but here's something kind of disturbing for the purists:

It's pretty clear from the trailer shots that the Kelvin saucer rim has two rows of windows and is thusly two decks thick. Your 3-D model looks very close to the actual thing. If we assume the kelvin has the same deck thickness as the TOS-E, well...holy hell that thing dwarfs the Original E.

And if the STXI-E is supposed to be much larger than the Kelvin, well...things get interesting. I still think we might end up with a mammoth ship.

That's actually ok by me. :) I think it would be more realistic for it to be larger, having to carry supplies, and whatnot.

I hope we get new blueprints or at least a new tech manual out of this movie, to give us definite dimensions, so we can stop wondering. :)

Wow, never noticed the lower row of windows in the rear view. My first guess was a one deck saucer rim, making about 5 (!) decks total in the primary hull... man that old tech warp engine would be huge now.
I suppose older "guts" would be bigger, and do less, so that could work.
Probably the two ships never appear onscreen in a way that shows the actual scale. (And with the construction shot, and possibly an intro beauty shot in "spacedock", the Enterprise is shown to be quite large on it's own).
And, I suppose (with starships anyway) size is irrelevant, relating to the technological level of the vehicle in question.
Still, it seems it was implied that the Kelvin was a older/smaller ship...?
I could certainly be wrong about that.
Do any screen caps have a good comparison of the kelvin with the shuttles?

Im hoping for that too, action figures, models and toy phasers are one thing, but I would love some sort of visual guide/incredible cross sections books.

Maybe something of a cross between tech manual and behind the scenes where it gives some of the techy stuff like ship dimentions, deckplan, crew compliment ect but without going down the route where only fans will buy it.

Something with set & behind the scenes photos, concept sketches would work well with some techy stuff and be a much more rounded publication which more than tech heads will apreciate. Thats why the Star Wars books did so well, the cross sections will appeal to hard core fans, tech fans and kids both young and old especially those who like me used to buy the Thunderbirds/Stingray/Captain Scarlett comics which had similar diagrams in them.

Will have to wait and see what the next 6 months bring in terms of news, something like this is more likely to come out in the weeks before release.

Love the model Madman, that looks pretty accurate ancient, this means this 'little' ship could be slightly bigger than we were expecting (dependant on the margin of error on the Kelvin model and the Enterprise image)
