Drexler and Mandel's awesome Star Trek Poster Book series had an issue that covered a 1970s trip to the Smithsonian to visit the Trek models. If memory serves they found indications that the D7 was hung with piano string.

Yes, I was talking about the Enterprise models. hanging those big boys on string? Dumb. Especially the huge 11 foot version.

Those are great speculation pics and art.

Question about the number for the NCC part, why is there a 0 before 514?

Who knows, rough guess mayb SF were aiming for the 1k mark so added zeros when they got to the hundreds, after all NX-01 wasnt NX-1, although 01 makes slightly more sence than 0514 as if they added 0s to older ships why is it not 01701

Both sides are right when one group says "The models were suspended from strings!" and the other says "No, they weren't!"

The Enterprise wasn't, and neither was the Botany Bay. But the Romulan Bird of Prey was, and the shuttlecraft was too. I suspect the Klingon D7 also was suspended from strings.

I suspect you probably have seen bits of it, at least. Updates get posted periodically in the TOS forum about addition of new material to the site, particularly of cleaned-up stills and shots from unused video clips such as are seen here. The guy who runs the site posts here (and at other boards like SpaceStationK7) as Capt.Mac. Worth poking around, definitely. :techman:

Would any computer people around here know why that web page keeps wanting to read the contents of my damn clipboard?
Kinda off topic, I know, sorry, but the site does look interesting...

It wants to make sure you haven't saved an IMG to your PC, which you cannot do anyway. (unless you take a screen-cap)

Really..? does it do that to everybody? Yeah, your right, if I did want an image I'd just screencap and crop :). Thanks for the help. I did discover in the meantime that it was also wanting to install Adobe Flash 10, and I was using the 64-bit vs of IE, which they don't have a version for currently.

I'd just never seen that "clipboard" prompt before.

    Thanks again for the tip.

    OK. back on topic....
