USS Grandeur - One... More... Time!

Oh man she still looks gorgeous. I remember when I first saw her a year or two ago. You going to fully texture that, aztecing, and all?

Either way, she, and by extension you are an inspiration.

This project has been going on so long are the people who asked you to draw it (a). Still Alive, (b). Still Friends, (c). Interested in Star Trek....

^Seriously. This thread has been going on for almost 9 years now and it's not even the first one! I feel like I have been following the Grandeur's progress since I first became a member here. It makes you wonder what cool stuff Vektor does at his day job when he can actually work uninterrupted.

I wonder if Vektor also worked on the M2 Bradley... :p also took ages and was never finished.. ;)

If he does fisnish this ship he will probably find another project to keep him busy for a few decades.. ;) *runs*

*edit*

One of Grandeur's sister ships MUST be named USS Bradley!

That’s the plan, though I’m not sure you’re going to see anything quite like traditional “aztecing.” Not that I don’t like aztecing but it’s been done to death and I may try something new.

Yes, yes and yes. Although, various circumstances and objectives have changed over the years. At this point, I’m determined to finish it primarily because I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t.

When its finally done what will you do next Vektor?

I'm goin' to freakin' DISNEYLAND! On Mars, probably. ;)

But seriously, in terms of personal 3D work, I plan to go back and finish my updated TOS Enterprise model, and some time after that I will probably revisit my UES Vanguard and finish it off as well. I might even take another run at my old USS Titan concept, with all due respect to Sean Tourangeau.

These days I’m a lot more into 2D digital artwork than 3D modeling and I’m actually making a little bit of money at it, though I won’t be changing careers any time soon. I did some concept art for a thus far unproduced Hollywood film project a couple of years ago, a book cover for a friend’s first published novel, and I’m currently doing a pretty extensive Trek-related design project for a private individual. I’ll be doing another book cover for the same author friend early next month and eventually two more in the series. Oh yeah, and some ongoing stuff for Dennis Bailey’s Polaris project. Plenty to keep me busy.

Believe me, the day job is pretty mundane and I would trade it for this kind of work in a heartbeat. Maybe some day. ;)

That’s actually tempting. Probably wouldn’t fit well with the naming motif for the class, though. :)

That will be cool, I can't wait to see it. Hell, maybe I'll learn something. Well, If you ever want to bounce any thoughts on that, or want a critique let me know. I'd be happy to help.

On that note what modeling package, and rendering software do you use?

Huh, weird. I thought 3ds Max came with V-Ray 2.0. Mental Ray is still pretty decent though a bit slower when it comes to render times. Ah well, still can't to see what you do regardless. :techman:

Nope, not a necro post, this is the real deal.

Lower primary hull has finally been stitched together into a single object and most of the gridlines have been cut.

When I saw this thread appear in the recent posts lists again, I have to admit that I peed a little...

;-)

Awesome work!
