USS Equinox, Dimensions an Bluprints

Captain Harlowe

Cadet
Newbie
Hello!

I am new, so forgive me if this topic is in the wrong Place.

The Nova-Class is my Favourite (along with the Sovereign)
And I alway wanted Deckplans of it, and even make a Model myself.

For a Model, I need to know, however, wht the Size of the Ship would be, and where I could find the best set of Views of it, to make the model.

On a second thought, I had a look at stratgic-designs Deckplans, and although great in quality, they seem to be a bit off, And I consider making a set myself.

For that, however, I'd need some help from knowledgeable folks, who might help me out, what systems and rooms a federation starship needs to have, so that I am not forgetting anything.

Regards,

Harlowe

Hm, the Renders look quite diffrent from the "real" Equinox.

Also, I thought the Ship was supposed to be som 166 metres long, but I hear there is debate regarding its actual size.

"OP"?

And the strategic Design Deckplans look nice, but seem to be off. E.g. the Crewsize is usually give as around 80, and the SD Plans only allow for a max crew of 40.

Is there any suggestion, what Program can be used to make Deckplans that have a Decent look?

Original Post.

There's lots of software you can use to make deckplans with. If your just going for flat plans take a look at Inkscape. It's free and has most of the capabilites of the expensive stuff like Coreldraw and Adobe Illustrator.

Actually, we did have enough beds for 80 crew on the Nova Class deck plans.

We saw in ST6, the possibility of 3 tier bunks for enlisted crew quarters, so not only did we put that in the refit deck plans but figured due to the small size of the Nova, they would have to have it as well to account for 80 crew members in such a small ship.

If you look at the deck listings sheet, you'll see "(4, 3 tier bunks)" for example meaning that 12 can sleep without the need for hotbunking. (The concept of using hotbunking was discussed until we remembered the scene in ST6).
Plus the Captain's quarters and other officers quarters. 80 crew should be accounted for in our Nova deck plans.

The thing is, the hotbunking in STVI wasn't really needed. I did a top elevation of just one deck and placed over 200 crew in recreation and in their rooms. One deck. And there was plenty of space left over.

I loved the Nova Class when I first saw it. Which is funny because I'm not a huge fan of the E-E and they're so similar. Never been a fan of the notched out forward version, or that little secondary deflector.

I'm not sure the Nova would need any hotbunking, either. Just use the three-high bunks. And strangely enough, you can squeeze 80 bunks into an Oberth of the oft-mentioned if perhaps a bit dubious 120 m size, too. Even without placing quarters in the ventral pod, you can have something like 30-40 bunks in the three decks of the saucer, and when you make each two beds high...

These science vessels would probably all be much like that: an operating crew of one or two dozen, plus room for lots and lots of visiting researchers and their staff. Uncomfortable for everybody, but practical and economical when one considers that other research assignments might see only a couple of visitors on board.

Being in the camp that the lower pod was a sensor platform, I'd have never thrown any berthing in there at all. No reason for anyone. Would you think that an Oberth, or Nova for that matter, would have tonnes of researchers on board at any given time? I was thinking on such a small ship, there wouldn't be any more then may be a dozen or so at a time.
