USS ENTERPRISE HAYNES OWNERS MANUAL (Part 3)

Sounds to me like the haters are starting yet another incoherent rant: "Since the toys aren't selling, Star Trek '09 is a complete and dismal failure!!!";)

Man, when will this nuttiness end...

Looks like somebody needs to actually read my post. I didn't say the film was an absolute epic failure. I said the merchandising was. Go back and check.

We were never able to get a moratorium on "gushers" or on the use of "ADHD" to describe fans of the newer versions of Trek. Some fans are happy to express contempt for young folks who enjoy these things in their sigs. So don't hold your breath.

Dear lord. Let's just hope the guy in your avatar isn't just as childish.

Agreed - describing young folks as "know-nothing punks" for liking a movie is pretty childish.

I was referring to your attitude.

I have not seen it, but I would love to buy it when it comes out... I don't have the money to pre-order it, though.

You weren't referring to any post, which is the problem. You make up a fictional group of posters to complain about: you take bits said by several different posters, merge them together like they were said by one single person, and then you multiply that person and talk about "the haters". Fantastic.

I'd like to declare a moritorium on the term "haters." It's divisive and insulting.

We were never able to get a moratorium on "gushers" or on the use of "ADHD" to describe fans of the newer versions of Trek. Some fans are happy to express contempt for young folks who enjoy these things in their sigs. So don't hold your breath.

I'd be very happy to expunge those terms too, as well as "aplogist." I know I've been guilty of using that one myself, but I'm gettin' tired of the conflict in my old age.

Well now that you've figured out my master plan, Mr. Holmes, let's say we get back to talking about the manual.

I for one am very excited that it's coming out; we haven't had a new Trek reference manual in quite some time.

What we've been shown so far doesn't look very good, and my interest in the subject matter is much diminished. That Mike Okuda is consulting on it is the only thing I've heard that piques my interest at this point - his contributions are always a good thing.

It could be the greatest thing since Franz Joseph Schnaubelt. Or it could be in the same realm as the "deprecated with extreme prejudice" Spaceflight Chronology, or the "personally deprecated by James Doohan" Mr. Scott's Guide. We don't know yet.

With regard to the "Abramsverse" tangent, I can only say that even though I despise the very concept of "reboots" (and have no interest in seeing any post-reboot Bond films, or even, as much as I like Steve Martin, any post-reboot Pink Panther films), I liked the new ST movie, and thought the casting was good. I also liked the new Get Smart movie, in spite of the fact that the more distinctive voices (i.e., Max and Siegfried) were conspicuously absent, and that it turned the Max/99 relationship upside down. At the same time, though, I think the best thing that could happen in the next movie would be for Temporal Agent Daniels to come in, and tell "Old Spock" that he has to personally correct the temporal anomaly that created the "Abramsverse," because the Federation has no future in that universe.

Not even caring about the characters much, here. I didn't like snotty Kirk, goofy Scotty, or pussy-whipped Spock.

Now we get to the point were Dennis says that he didn't even liked the TNG episodes he wrote in face of the masterpiece that is Star Trek 2009.

I have a strong bias; I like "Tin Man" better because they send me money.

Quite right they should! As much as I disagree with you on elements of Trek 2009, "Tin Man" was one helluva good episode and remains one of my top five favorite episodes. Maybe even top four ... let me count: "Inner Light", BOBW Pt 1, "Q Who", "Yesterday's Enterprise" -- okay, top five.
