She actually reminds me a little of what they used for the cover of the computer game, The Kobayashi Alternative.

It's not bad, but it's pretty much indistinguishable from all the fan made renders we've been posting. It lacks the uniqueness of the 2009 movie incarnation.

It's based on the series version of the ship rather than the pilot version, with the smaller deflector dish and no spires on the nacelles. The proportions and detailing is right off of the TMP ship, but in DSC grimdark.

Oh yeah, and it's comparative in size to the 750 meter long USS Discovery. And this isn't a reboot how? Was the USS Enterprise blasted with a shrinking ray between now and "The Man Trap"?:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

It looks to me to be about a 50% increase in the Enterprise but no more, which is around 450m in total give or take, it should be enough so that it doesn't look like a minnow next to the Discovery when we see them next to each other from above or the side.

The angles used in the sequence helps the Enterprise a lot as its closer to the screen and thus looks bigger.

Will have to wait until 2019 to get some shots that really confirm its size.

I am sorry to see the drama here; I'm just appreciating some new Trek to talk about and enjoy this version of the 1701...it looks like what I imagine it could have if TOS had anything resembling a budget!

It's not entirely based on the series version. It's got the pilot grilles on the ends of the nacelles instead of the spheres. Bussard spikes would have been nice to include, but I don't mind their absence too much. It's a visual reboot.

And if the rumors hold true, it's a wonderful start to a possible spinoff series about Pike's Enterprise!

I'm sincerely shocked how close she is to the original and the 79 version. No complaints. There should be none. The original Enterprise' spirit is alive and well.

And if they do a Pike series at some point, this Enterprise is perfect for it.

Of course it feels derivative of fan designs. Ever since Koerner fans have been going ape trying their own shots at updating the ship. Everything from subtle to extreme. We've had retro 1950s styled Enterprises, we've had Enterprises with harsher lines, Enterprises that look like they warped in from TNG, enterprises giving the impression of the original with subtle texture enhancements. Everything.

This is about as good as any of us could have hoped for, and it is far more balanced and faithful to the original than the JJ Enterprise.

I'm not totally sure I'm ready for that, but we'll see. If the casting is just right, it could be a lot of fun.

    In other words, a reboot.

If that's how you see it, I'm okay with that.

People, places, events, dates, are not rebooted.

The way those people, places, events look are rebooted.

Really? I didn't know they were considering that. I would show up for that!

Has no right to exist? el oh el. I like the end. It almost devolves into some kind of existential crisis. "If the nacelles look different, does anything really matter anymore?" Such passion. Such drama. Such anal retentiveness. Gods, I love this fandom.

Indeed. If you want to call it a reboot, that's cool. The big design changes supports that. Officially it's not, so equally you can go with that.

Well they ignored the Klingon Augment Virus. That's a huge event that totally shaped the way we saw Klingons in the TOS era. We didn't see a single one, among any representative of the Klingon houses or on Kronos - and when we did have a Klingon posing as a human, it was done through horrific surgery and not a simple injection which causes tingling and then dissolving of the ridges.

What sense does that make (especially since they leant heavily on "In a Mirror, Darkly" which came just a couple of episodes later)??

It's been hinted here and there, and so far I just consider it a rumor only. But should they do it, I would love to see it! How does Pike interact with the Klingons? What was the Priority One distress call about? There are so many things I'd love to see from the Pike years.

It's interesting. He had a mega meltdown in 2001 over Enterprise, but now it's as acceptable as TOS and TNG. Give it another 17 years and Discovery will be fine. He'll be complaining about the redesigned Shenzhou in Star Trek: Challenger.

IMO, I'm glad they veered away from the Augment virus. It was a weak retcon to me.

But by default is cannot be the same universe as those huge, wide-ranging events if they ignored them. Amirite?

Such weird sense of ownership...it makes no sense.
I'm going for option C: entertaining.
