USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g mode

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

@ Potemkin Prod,
I have, basically, used the original coloration that was used on the Vulcan shuttle model used in STTMP.

I'm not sure I agree with that as that model appeared yellow and tan in my eyes. However, I will of course defer to your personal preferences. It's beautiful work!

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

On screen the Vulcan shuttle model looked brown and tan
as it was filmed, like the TMP Enterprise, in very subdued lighting conditions.
The actual filming miniature was done in a series of purples,
lavenders, blues and browns with splashes of red here and there
And the original drawings were done in these colors. also.
If you've never seen these images, here are some that I have
These are the real colors of the actual filming miniature model

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

I've seen them. Just didn't care for them, as apparently Mr. Wise (or perhaps the VFX team) felt as well since it looked brown and tan on the screen. But chillax! It's just my silly ol' opinion.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

Here's a final update of the previous 3/4 underside/port view.
Various tweaks, additions, modifications and I have added a couple of travel pods to establish scale.
The scale of the travel pods is approximate.
It's pretty close. I found a good travel pod image to work with and I threw 2 in the image for the fun of it!
This view should be complete, now

Lovely underside view :) :techman:

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

Nice ship, and good work on the pics.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

I think this ship would look really cool if the nacelles were raised above the saucer, and the (overly long, imho) pylons were made shorter by about 1/2 or 1/3 and the the angle between them made more acute.

Unfortunately I don't have the skill or tools to make an example of how that would look...

Nasence:

I love your plans and I want a set! I collect all the technical stuff on ships and yours is beautiful. Message me, or email me at alec@propworx.com.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

Believe it or not, I am nearly finished with the 3 perspective views I plan to use within this new general plans set.
Only one will be used as a full sheet size image and the other two will get used as smaller images somwhere in these plans.
Probably when I start writing/re-writing all of the construction and performance/mission histories for this class.
That will use up 1 perhaps 2 of this 10 sheet set.
I am back to work on the actual plans with 4 out of the 10 sheets complete. I am working out details for specific decks and to incorporate enough deck schematic info to complete the crossection sheet, also.
I think this took me longer to do in Photoshop than it probably would've taken doing these in a 3D model application, but under the circumstances it's the way it went.
I wanted to complete this whole thing by now... put it behind me...the result should be worth the efforts to date.
Anyhoo,
I am posting a test image of one of the Detroyat perspective images with a star field background.
This is just a test for me and to get some feedback.
Trying to match proper lighting on the models surface to match that of the star field background is a real pain when doing this the old fashioned way.
This image may or may not be a final one in the set. I have a lot of different star field backgrounds culled from a lot of sources.
I'll end up using one really good background image for the larger print image and perhaps more generic star field pattern backgrounds for smaller images.
Plus I am modifying and adjusting these, as well to get a good blend of both images.
I am trying to create at least one star field background that will accentuate or compliment the way I envisioned how the colors of the ship would play off of different space or galactic phenomema.
Don't think I did too bad with this for first attempt.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

Not bad at all... that's probably what the 3D model would have come out looking like.

Glad you're almost done. :)

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

i clicked the link but all i see is a white where i should be seeing a ship :( is it on Photobucket by chance? :)

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

ok now i see it :)

Tis a ship of Beuty there :adore:

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

Yeah, I just love how the engineering section is stowed directly beneath the hull, no neck, just a nice compact design. And the saucer reminds me a little of one of the flying saucer designs that were drawn up based on eyewitness accounts. That is a plus in my book.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

I love the flat bridge. Anyone done work on Aridas Apache class?

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

^Nope, Why don't you try it? You seem to post alot here, but haven't seen any of your work.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

I've got a 3D model I need to get photographed. Same with a lot of folks--Job pressure.

Re: USS Detroyat-Look'g for a good CGI artist interested in create'g m

If you're still looking for someone to do a 3D model for your project let me know. I've worked in 3DS Max about 5 years and have done some starship modeling. If you're interested I would need good 3 view plans - preferable line drawings, any perscpective images you might have as well as color references.

Here's some examples of my WIPs and finished work:

NX-01 Enterprise - almost ready for textures

Klingon D4 Battlecruiser - needs more modeling work

USS Bluxome, my take on the Miranda Class starship as it might have appeared during TOS era, named for my girlfriend Maggie.

USS Kennedy, my original design to bridge the gap between NX-01 Enterprise and Kirks TOS NCC-1701 Enterprise.

I roughed out a model this morning based on plans I found online, like I don't have enough things going on between by Second life Shop and my own model projects. :p Anyway I simply reshaped my TOS Miranda class nacelles for the moment just to have them in the pic...I'll go back and model the nacelles to the actual plans. This is pretty rough...maybe an hour or so of actual work. Even if the model isn't needed now...I'm having fun. ^^

Hello Jennifur!
I am still looking for a CGI artist to realize this design in 3D.
The design has under gone a more extensive and comprehensive revisiting since I did those plans all those years, ago.
I have a new set of plans that are still a work-in-progress.
So, if you want to work with me on this design, I would hold off doing any more work on this model.
I think what you have presented, as a representative sample of your work looks great! Especially the modified Klingon design as well as the NX-01!
I am looking for a level of skill and details that are equal to a design of the NX-01.
If you want to get in touch with me direct, I have higher res digital images/drawings of the new, mor extensively detailed plans and, of course, mock 3D perspective illustrative images I have created in Photoshop for both reference of design and detail as well as my idea for how the design should look in terms of color.
You can reach me by personal email if you want to talk some more about this project and what I am after in terms of the final look and images that I need for the finished set of plans.
m.morrssd@yahoo.com

Hope to hear from you soon!
Thank you for interest!
Hope we can both collaborate on this project!
:)
