USS Aventine???

Clawhammer, gotta ask, was this ship inspired by a shark? The side view always evokes a shark's head and mouth to me.

Hey, Mark, dunno if this falls under the category of non-cleared info, but how exactly is the ship's name and registry painted on the dorsal face of the saucer? I'd assume the usual practice of placing it forward center would be complicated a bit by the centerline fin?

Actually forward center is where it is atm. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the "centerline fin". I try to keep the name and registry position in mind during the design process. :) (Sometimes I forget by over-enthousiasm.)

I may just be looking at it wrong then... the SOTL calendar pic makes the projection on the saucer's dorsal face kinda look like it's a thin sort of "dorsal fin" along the saucer's centerline. The other views helped me figure where the registry would be placed a bit better. :)

Love the Aventine. It might be my favourite, which is ironic because its never been on screen.

PS. What class is this ship?

it's been said a few times but the ship is Vesta Class

I like to refer to it as the AWESOME class starship

Ahem......

For those who don't know/or would like to know...

The Aventine isn't a fandom ship/kit-bash for the calender, it is now in fact an official ship in the fiction, it's latest adventure was under the command of Captain Ezri Dax in the Star Trek: Destiny novels.

It is a Vesta Class Starship, and there are now several of it's type in service in the fiction.

Hope this helped those with an interest....

Ah yea, I remember that ship. It's sweet too. Question, what software do you model in? Blender? Lightwave? Maya?

Well it's still not-canon. lol

NICE! One of the best designs I've ever seen!:techman: I was wondering if we would ever have an Aventine design comeptition like we had a Titan design competition (although living in the UK I wasn't able to enter it!:(), but it looks like there's no need.

Going OT for a second, where did you find that impressively Trekish/sci-fi hall way you have a pic of in your album (#69, iirc)?

Sweet little ship. It looks really cool. I like how all the classic elements are incorporated (with the exception of the neck) into the design.

Thanks people for the kind comments!

#68 That picture is from 2007, it's the outer ring of the convention center in San Diego. Siggraph 2007 was held there. It was great fun! Lovely building as well, very light and with a seaview.
