USA - Memorial Day Weekend

This is the first Memorial Day Weekend since I was 16 that I haven't had to be at work. I finally got a big boy job with paid holidays, so I get a 3-day weekend.

Anybody got big plans? I will be driving out to Chicago for a Cubs game with a few of my good friends. One of them has been in the Army, and I haven't seen him in over a year, so I'm pretty pumped about it. I love being drunk in Wrigleyville in the middle of the afternoon!

My brother is marrying one of my best friends and I have to study for finals. I am losing my mind. I didn't sleep at all last night so I took a nap today, only to be woken up by the bride-to-be calling my phone. "I bought two pairs of shoes, one for the ceremony and one for the reception, but one of them hurts a lot so is it okay if I wear the same pair the whole day?"

No one cares! Aaaah!

Tell her that she can go barefoot if she wants. Nobody is going to see her feet.

When my friend got married last fall, she wore tennis shoes under her wedding dress.

I told her that she could wear flip-flops and no one would notice. Also that on my wedding day I wore old shoes I had since high school and no one noticed. And that the last person in the world to notice what shoes she wore would be my brother.

I mean he loves her, but he doesn't care what shoes she wears!

My last three days of Scarborough Faire. This year I will wear the yellow Vet's sash in the parade as a cast member.

Blanche Houghton, Harbor Master of the village of Scarborough 1533. ;)

Were heading to Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. It has an indoor waterpark and lot of things to do. Were going for Saturday and Sunday, then on Monday were going to my brothers house in NJ.

Don't know about the whole day - knowing me, probably reading and sleeping and playing Kingdom of Loathing.

But on Saturday I'll be giving blood.
Friday I'm getting my car inspected.
Tomorrow I'm teaching 2nd graders the history of manned spaceflight.

Same things I do every other weekend, only 50% more of it: Reading, writing, cartooning, computer, Internet, DVDs, beach, walking, possibly Blue Hills.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme?

Saturday it'll hopefully be dry enough to finish planting my veg garden. Sunday afternoon we'll drive about 100 mi. to my grandmother's to stay overnight. Monday we'll get up, walk to the cemetery, put some flowers on some graves, visit relatives, stand with hats off for the national anthem and Taps, watch the veterans fire three rifle volleys, watch the little kids scamble to pick up the empty brass, drive to another cemetery, put some more flowers down, drive home.

Monday will be our bonus day. I'm taking MBA classes at night, and my wife is working on the things she needs to do in order to get a job as a college professor, so we're swamped.

Sat and Sun will be normal weekend homework, chores, errands, etc. Monday we've agreed not to do any work, just fun stuff. Probably will play some games, take the dogs to the park, make a nice dinner, and just relax.

^^ That damn avatar makes me LOL every time I see it, damn you!

No big plans for me.. Because of our fire season, I'm on call 24/7 and can't leave the state. My wife and kids are going to attend the HS graduation of our neice in SoCal and leave today.. While they are there, my wife and daughter will be seeing My Chemical Romance at the Hollywood Palladium..

As for me, in between fire calls, I'll be cleaning out the garage, going out for beers with the guys, and planting the garden...

Not a bad way to spend the weekend!!

My SIL and her kids might come and visit. I may sit on the back deck all weekend and drink beer. If my SIL and fam don't come, my wife and I might hit the casino.

Food will be eaten, preferably from the cow, the pig, or the chicken.

It will be delightful!

Oh, and Kestra, when my wife and I got married, she had "good shoes" for the ceremony. At the reception, she chucked 'em for her red Chuck Taylors, which remain her normal footware of choice, and thus amused our guests.

^I've never seen my wife wear heels. She's a distance runner and values her ankles.
My fiancée is not really fond of heels for the same reason (she's not really a runner, but she values stability over fashion). In addition, I have subtly discouraged her from wearing heels because she's taller than me with them. My clever plan has succeeded so far. :D
