USA distribution -CBS All Access discussion

Internet is required to watch, for example, Netflix, so when both services are required the cost can't be unbundled even if the services are. You still get to claim a big savings in no cable TV, but your cost isn't $35. It's $35 plus $internet.

I would have internet with or without television.........should I include my energy and gas bill too?

At least they'll call it what it is so you know what it's about to tightly identify the brand. "Spike" - what a stupid name.

Not even. I and others are waiting for DVD or BD. But please, everyone else go and pay to watch commercials for me

How do you get internet? Might want to include that.

I'm not going to drive a car because I resent the fact that I have to pay for gas. How dare they!

With news that today there will be a Paramount Network

http://deadline.com/2017/02/spike-the-paramount-network-renamed-viacom-rebranding-1201906611/

the transformation of Spike into a general entertainment network rebranded as The Paramount Network.

it didn't work in In 1977,

they will plan to bundle CBSAA and Showtime together in 2017

I wonder if they will try to make a over-the-top access like Showtime and CBS All Access bundle with it too?
Wonder whether all ST shows will gravitate there once deals with other networks are up.

CBS (CBS) Q4 2016 Results - Earnings Call Transcript
Feb.15.2017
And all of this success has been before we have even launched a single original scripted show in All Access.
We also have our real big gun coming soon with Star Trek: Discovery. Production has begun, and all I can say is I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing and I'm confident the show will live long and prosper. So to say we are on pace for 4 million subs each at CBS All Access and Showtime OTT is probably a gross understatement.
And at CBS All Access, in terms of sub [subscriber] growth, we just had our best quarter ever followed by our best month ever in January, followed by our best day ever for signups this past Sunday driven by CBS's broadcast of the Grammys. In December, we added NFL to the All Access for the first time and it helped boost subs dramatically.

There is a paywall so I can't see the rest. But from this you can see they have the ability to see subscription signups by the day so certain promos for DSC and the leadup to the first episode on CBSAA they can see how many signups.

also
Showtime’s internet-only subscriber base has climbed to 1.5 million, while CBS All Access — the broadcaster’s live and on-demand paid streaming service — is nearing the same number of subs, according to CBS CEO Leslie Moonves.

Moonves revealed the numbers in a session last Friday at UCLA Anderson’s Pulse Entertainment, Sports & Technology Conference. The event was closed to press but sources confirmed his remarks. (CBS and Showtime reps declined to comment.)
Showtime Hits 1.5 Million Streaming Subscribers, CBS All Access Nears Same Mark (EXCLUSIVE)

Now this is interesting:
CBS will add CBS Sports Network and Pop, which it owns with Lions Gate (LGF.A) to All Acces, Wunderlich noted. It also has the option to add CW and Smithsonian at a later date. Showtime will be available as an add-on.
So this is how it will expand the library offerings for a subscription to CBSAA. It will not just be CBS shows. Pop is formerly TVGuideNetwork. https://www.poptv.com/
This is the first mention of CW network's shows may goto CBSAA.

Yeah, looks like all of the "CBS All Access will be doomed! Doomed!" talk was a bit off. Looks like CBS All Access will do just fine. Sigh. $8.76 for Amazon Prime Video, $5.30 for Comic-Con HQ, $12.96 for Hulu, $12.96 for Netflix, $9.54 for Starz, $10.80 for WWE Network, $10.80 for YouTube Red, and now another $10.80 for CBS All Access. $81.92 per month on video streaming services. That's more than I spend on cable television. :ack:

Yeah I think Prime pays for itself, too. Hulu only costs me 6.99 because I don't mind commercials. I'm on another person's Netflix account, so I don't even pay that. I use Groove, that's 9.99. So, that's about $32/month for all my streaming services, once you add in CBSAA and if you include Prime as a monthly bill instead of a one-time $99 payment. That's not bad at all.

I doubt many are going to sign up for that many streaming services at the same time though. There will be some, but I think it will be more unusual. The norm from others I've chatted with who've cut the cord seems to be an average of 2-4 streaming services to meet their various needs.

Depends. Personally, if it were up to me I'd dump Netflix and Starz, but my family enjoys watching programs on them sooo...

Still can't believe people pay for a WWE Network.

Why not? Before the WWE Network came around, each month's pay-per-view was anywhere from $50 to $70. I primarily pay for and use Hulu to watch WWE Monday Night RAW, Tuesday Night Smackdown, and Wednesday Night Main Event, and use the WWE Network to watch WWE NXT every week and the various pay-per-views. Combined, that's $23.76 per month to watch WWE and all of its pay-per-views. That's a significant savings compared to paying $50 to $70 per month plus cable.

I'm absolutely, 100% certain NOT going to sign up for CBS All Access. I download my videos at McDonalds off my kindle, just pay 1.99 for a sd video. Even Doctor Who does this now.

Only two TV shows I'm interested so far this year in buying is 12 Monkies Season 3, and Mercy Street Season 2.

I can't point to anything else I care to buy, got jaded after Stargate Universe was cancelled. I had netflicks a few years back, don't care for lame movies and TV shows I've seen, or stupid stuff with dragons and naked idiots on thrones.

I like hardcore history, or hardcore sci-fi, and I don't want boring anime cartoons acting unrealistic, having sex with squids. I don't care for that lame stuff. I don't ever want to subscribe for another subscription service again, having bad show after bad show tossed at me.

I don't care that 4 episodes a month equals $8 on Amazon, I like I can just download it, keep it, know I'll have it in 30 years. I'm nowhere certain CBS, much less CBS All Access, will be around or recognize my rights to any individual video sale, if they even offer that. Think it is a pure, cheap streaming scam. I want to just download what I want, watch later at home.

If I don't see it pop up on ITunes or Amazon.com within two days of airing, I will be forced to do the right, moral, ethical thing, and watch it by means other than the crooked endeavors of this streaming stunt. I prefer to support the shows I like.

And no, Amazon Prime isn't worth it. I'm a philosopher, who reason I know so much about Star Trek is because I was reading the debates from Gaza 4th Century between the Neo-Platonists and Christians debating about form and being, and realized the idea of Startrek's transporter/replicator came directly from these debates (can a transporter create life argument is a very ancient one, who knew?)

I did a few reviews on books, and included the price sold to me, and found in one case, I was being "charged" $160 for a book others only saw the price as being $54. Made sure it wasn't a currency issue.

Once Amazon Prime knows you specialize in a certain product, they adjust you to the high end costs others pay. They never noticed I only paid a Max of $25 for a ebook though, so lost me on a lot of sales, if it was too expensive, I would download just the sample, go to a library.

That's more or less how I feel about this CBS scam. I will give them one chance to do the right thing, sell it for download a day or two after on Amazon or ITunes. If they act too snobbish, too Hood for my money, then I won't pay. I won't be guilt tripped if they shut the show down because not enough subscribers, like they tried with StarGate Universe. They either do the right thing and play for the long run, or I'm not playing along at all. Period, no bargaining, no negotiation, I will not be lured in with reality TV garbage or told the have Big Brother X in Madison, Wisconsin or a Good Wife Spin Off based in Madrid subtitles, or Japanese Anime robots line dancing. I don't care. Just Star Trek, just the episodes, downloaded, keep that other trash away.

Managed to watch all that star trek on Amazon video too, including the animated series.

Oh... don't try any AMC stunts like with what they did with The Walking Dead. Let me watch a episode or two with commercials, then said go watch the rest on cable or subscribe to the service! I bought 6 seasons of that show, plus 1 1/2 of Fear The Walking Dead. I still watch it, but am to insulted to do it their way, or my old way. I gave in, started watching it the way most people do now.... that way everyone in this thread eludes to, the other than paid option.

Once I know I'm just a corporate pawn, I rebel. You get good loyal buyers when you play fair. 12 Monkies is getting my money this year. Maybe Doctor Who if it ever returns. I got a feeling most people will become infuriated a week after airing, seeing it isn't on Itunes or Amazon, and will just give in, do the moral right thing, and watch it for free. Nobody should cooperate with corporate mind games, only product we want is the video, I am not buying the rest of CBS' trash. I am willing to pay extra for the sake of avoiding all that garbage. I only want what I want, nothing else. Amazon and Itunes grasp this.

Right now, for the sake of the argument, I'm paying for Amazon Prime, and HBO and Showtime through Amazon Prime. I don't have any other subscriptions for any services or networks, and I got rid of cable TV years ago. I got my HD antenna for football season, which works fine. My HD antenna certainly performs better than the Texans. LOL

Now I do spend money on purchasing current seasons of my favorite shows on Amazon Prime, and movies. Right now I got five active season passes for TV shows, each costing an average of about 20 to 30 bucks. I knew this was going to happen when I gave up cable, but in the long run, I'm spending less money purchasing the individual shows (that I really want) rather than paying for a cable package.

And, like cable, Amazon Prime has tons of stuff to watch that's part of the Prime, most of which (like cable) I have no interest in. Either way, I'm paying for a shit ton of stuff I'll never watch, it's just Amazon Prime has better benefits than Comcast (Or XFinity, or whatever the fuck it calls itself these days).

I'm going to bite the bullet and get the CBS All-Access but not until the show is about to premiere. No sense in wasting money on other shows I'll never watch. I'm still not entirely convinced that their network is going to be able to handle the load of every generation of Trekkie tuning in to watch this. I still hate having to do this, and prefer existing streaming services (and the old-fashioned TV) over having to purchase yet another streaming service, but I have been and always shall be a slave to the Trek, and I don't want to miss out on the conversation here once it starts, for good or bad.

My entertainment budget is tight. I've got basic Netflix, Amazon Prime and an omni-directional HD antenna for the local channels. I'll watch the pilot on CBS and if it's good I'll watch the rest on Blu Ray.

I watch my shows through the PS4 console and display it via a projector, so I was concerned, at first, that CBS All Access is not going to be easily accessible through my console. However, I've just downloaded the app and it works fine, so I'm no longer concerned. Unlike most people, I actually welcome the competition to Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Having said this, I will not be subscribing until Star Trek Discovery actually comes out.

It's hard to believe that some people will actually not get it even it to watch Star Trek, it only costs $6/month

I was really close to buying an Apple TV mainly because of All Access so I can watch it on a big TV instead of my laptop or Ipad. I might still do that (And I have bought other things on Itunes too) but the more Discovery is delayed the more I will be able to save my money until that time comes. I see all these complaints about it being on All Access and not Netflix and I still feel like he are heading towards a a la carte system. Instead of paying a cable company for a bundle of channels, you're paying multiple companies for access to subscriptions. I wonder if there will be a time where the month total for all the subscription channel options will be as equal or more than the total you pay on a cable bill. You know Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/All access will increase prices as they see fit, just like Cable did.
