So here's the first trailer for the American version of Shameless. I'm not totally sold on it but it does look more faithful than I expected.
I think I'll check it out when it starts but it's really made me want to go back and watch the original again from the start.

I don't like the UK version so doubt I will watch the U.S one but the show doesn't seem like it would translate well into an American tv show.

Watched bits and pieces of the original here and there. And as much as I like William H Macy, he's totally wrong for the part.

Hmmm. Looks like it might be OK! Nice to see they've kept the family structure (and even names) intact.

Yeah, that's kind of my take as well. Shotime has the first 20-odd minutes of the first episode on their website, and although Macy doesn't have much to do I'm not sure he was the right choice.

Here's hoping, though.

And the first episode is quite similar to the original. American remakes tend to do better when they build off of the original and develop their own style, let's hope that's the case here too. Though I do love them setting it in Chicago!

I'm not averse to remakes but this just doesn't seem to get it right. So near and so far. Emily Rossum is much too glamorous to be one of the trashy Gallagher clan while I never thought that William H Macy (who is one of the finest actors at work) would be right for Frank and this trailer confirms it.

Might be worth a watch in its own right if you can overlook the original. But whereas the US Office kept the archetypes but changed their names and appearances, as well as inserting new characters, the fact that this one has retained the original names means that comparisons will be unavoidable.

From the trailer I thought Fiona was the only character they got right. I mean you expect everyone to be "hot" on American television, but she seemed quite in character. Everyone else seems quite forced or just plain wrong.
