(US) Do you support a $15 minimum wage?

Do you support a $15 (or higher) minimum wage in the US?

Small businesses - really small businesses like mom and pop stores and local restaurants are getting squeezed.

But are they really? Or have they been simply enjoying an unsustainable wage rate for far too long? I've yet to see an argument on why paying a living wage is a bad thing.

If I (if I were a small business owner), can't live on $7.25 an hour, why should I expect that labor be available for that cost?

No argument there.

This is why I like the idea of regulating based on company size/revenue.

Here's an idea: in order to help the little mom and pop firms, surcharge larger companies and subsidize the small businesses to pay their employees a living wage. Would have to be set up in such a way to minimize fraud but that would seem to be the best of both worlds.

It would need to be for a defined period. While smaller companies adjust to the new normal.

A better idea would be to lower taxes and regulatory burdens especially on smaller businesses as its not just the cost of labor but also the other overhead that hurts.
I'm a capitalist libertarian at heart, so any method of wealth transfer makes me a little uneasy.
OTOH, a country this large can't exist as a purely capitalist society either.

Isn't the problem being that you need tax revenue to help fund social programs but all tax cuts are always for the rich so it is the small business people who have to pay are more unfair percentage to makeup for it?
Maybe if people would stop believing the lies that the Republicans use when they talk about how tax cuts are for everyone we could maybe get some more fair tax cuts for the middle class. Basically make the rich pay more and the middle class pay less.

The rich actually pay far more taxes, percentage wise as well as gross revenues.
Fortunately for the truly wealthy, they have much easier access to different ways of lowering gross taxable income, through business investments, shares of stock, bonds, funds etc, while those who are living on a more paycheck to paycheck income have little extra cash for tax-reducing investments.
The same goes for businesses. Google has billions of dollars of income and probably hundreds of millions in profits; its a worldwide company so it can use different countries tax structures to keep more profits in the company. If you look only at US revenue, its still in the highest tax bracket.

Welcome to America. Land of no minimum time off, no maternity leave, no guaranteed sick time, and no universal healthcare.
Various companies offer minimum time off, maternity leave, garanteed sick time, and healthcare. Work for that employer if those are things you want.

if your employer doesn't offer what you want make room for the person who will do your job without those things. Seriously why would you stay?

Educate yourself so that you can get a job that offers you what you feel you deserve, stop compromising.

Oh dear. You are so out of touch with the point/reality I don't even know where to begin...

Let's start with a visual; it's probably for the best:

I am curious - when was the last time you went looking for employment?
What - if any - are your personal employment qualifications?
My experience (lack of college degree due to low income, lived in rural area so limited job opportunities) is that it is rare that a person can just waltz away from a job that doesn't meet their personal expectations.

And just for good measure let them eat cake!

All of this.
Additionally, and to be frank, I'm not sure what is more impressively terrible, @Tenacity -- your scope being so limited on this topic that you thought my post was at all personal (it wasn't, my job has benefits and I am plenty well educated, thanks), your inability to distinguish between nations and corporations, or your gross stance on workers' rights. (Or your poor spelling and grammar, which usually I wouldn't point out, but if you're going to tell someone to "educate yourself", at least use spellcheck.)

So there are enough very well paying jobs with lots of benfits for everyone who is qualifed then? So the question is "Are there are more qualifed applicants than positions available?" So what are those qualifed applicants supposed to do if there aren't enough positions available?

But why is the US one of the few First world nations not to offer maternity/paternity leave, Sick Leave as a matter of course?

Because FREEDUM!!1!

It starts to feel like the Constitution only applies for those who are well off. Only they are expected to want "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" everyone else should just be happy they are getting some scraps.

In the meantime, millennials will remain the most educated, over-qualified, and underpaid generation in American history while @Tenacity tries to find answers for those questions. Hint: they're not in your copy of The Fountainhead.

It was written by white rich planters and lawyers for other white rich planters and lawyers. The Founding Rich white man's club.....
The American dream is just that.... a dream with too many folks sleeping

All very true. But as we grow, we should all know those ideas and dreams are wanted by everyone. "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" is now interpreted as "get as much money and guns, screw anyone in your way" by way too many people.

I don't think that's an exclusively American problem, I suspect it's the same in many countries.
