US Airways plane goes down in Hudson River

Re: Plane in the Hudson

according to new yorks ch 5 news everybody survived crash.unbelievable!

Like I said in the other topic, this can be the best plane crash ever.

And where else would the pilots land a plane near NYC? Great landing job through.

Re: Plane in the Hudson

I'd give the pilot some credit. Great job choosing the emergency landing location.

really! that was quick thinking on his part to land in the hudson river. eyewitness reports say it was a perfect landing. he should get a medal!

Re: Plane in the Hudson

Hoser, you missed being first by "that" much, so your thread gets merged into the first.

Must have been grabbing the picture for your opening post.

Re: Plane in the Hudson

If the problem occurred on takeoff, that would explain it. Loss of engine power without enough altitude to fly a full pattern leads to what is called the "impossible turn", where the pilot tries to do a 180 back to the runway and usually fails. This guy apparently made the better choice.

If this is indeed a double engine failure from a flock, the crew deserves all the credit for safely deadsticking an aircraft to a ditch with wing-mounted engines. Intact.

Yikes. I hope everyone got off okay. The Hudson River in winter is not somewhere you want to be.
It's not somewhere you want to be no matter the season :p

True that! (KM, still loves her former home city, but not the yucky Hudson!)

News saying it could have been catastrophic. Yeah, they could have hit the GW Bridge. Then we would have had an Air Florida Flight 90 situation. :(

So glad I am off work or I would be busy working on a graphic for this right now while the boss shouts a lot.

The news says a plane crash could have been catastrophic? I'm so glad they're here to tell us these things!

The landing by the pilots must have been perfect. The fact that they were able to keep the plane completely intact, despite the fact it had wing mounted engines is incredible.

I'm watching the salvage operation. It's interesting...

It looks like it's been pulled into shallower water. Hopefully, they'll be able to find out for sure what happened.

Besides the GWB there's like what, 11 other bridges around that area it could've hit.
