Everybody here good?

Edit: I just heard the police say they have everyone off the plane and alive. :bolian:

Re: Plane in the Hudson

I was watching CNBC and they were saying that a Bird stuck it. It's only preliminary right now, but I have to ask how can a bird strike a plane causing it to crash into the river below. That must of been a really big bird.

Found a picture on the AP website:

Yikes. I hope everyone got off okay. The Hudson River in winter is not somewhere you want to be.

ETA: Everyone's okay. Butts frozen off, but alive. Possibly a bird strike.

145 passengers, 5 crew according to MSNBC. Airbus A320.

Flock of geese, and I think it's way too early to say if people are OK or not. They can die after getting out of the water / plane.

Nice looking landing through, great job by the pilot.

Looks like it's floating there, but I saw another shot where it's almost submerged.

Passengers are already talking to CNN. They seem to be okay, rattled, but saying everyone was calm getting out.

The plane floated for a little while and then obviously sunk.

This could be the best (luckiest) plane crash ever.

When a plane is landing it slows down. Lowering the flaps reduces the stall speed, but the thing is still closer to that threshold that during normal cruise. An engine problem at the wrong time could force the pilot to nose-down to avoid a stall even if doing so takes them below the glide slope.

I think they were taking off when the bird struck. It makes sense that with a flock of geese getting into the engine, that would make the pilot lose control.

Bird strike in England two years ago. Caused an engine failure, plane made it back to the ground safely.

Re: Plane in the Hudson

local news is reporting that there are survivors who are being treated in weehawken nj.prelimenary reports from port authority say there are no major injuries.eyewitness said they saw explosion out of one engine ,it circled over the bronx and then crashed in river.if all survived it's great news and a miricle.

Re: Plane in the Hudson

according to new yorks ch 5 news everybody survived crash.unbelievable!

Re: Plane in the Hudson

A plane, I think in France, several years ago got hit by a bird right in the nose of the plane. The cockpit lost their pressure and the damage was amazing.

Re: Plane in the Hudson

I'd give the pilot some credit. Great job choosing the emergency landing location.
