Uranus takes a pounding more frequently than thought

Article says it all

So what do people think, is the theory plausible? It at least doesn't rely on a giant planet that can't seem to be found.

And yes, poor Uranus will continue to be the butt of jokes for a long time.

I don't have anything to say, the name of this thread is too hilarious to not comment on. :guffaw:

They should just rename that planet and have done with all the immature double entendre and silly bum cracks. "Urectum" would sound so much more respectable! [/Farnsworth]

I know the people at Nice Observatory involved in this work. They have a good sense of humour, so they would appreciate it.

Well not unsuprisiningly this thread got off topic about the planets unusal tilt. I almost want to dig out the BBC's "The Planets" documentary on DVD on watch theepisode on the Voyage to the Planets.

Though Voyager 2 is now some 98 AU's (14.7bn Km, 9.1bn Miles or 0.001545ly) from the sun. Or to put it another way twice the distance of Pluto's orbit.

Though on related not Voyager 1, is expected to reach the Heliopause in 2014. Where the Sol's solar wind no longer has the strength to push back the stellar winds, and Voyager 1 will pass into Interstellar space.

Not bad for a probe launched in the 1970's

Love the article :guffaw:

Uranus isn't just gassy...

...Uranus has been pounded really, really hard not once, but twice...

...punching into Uranus...

Poor Johann Bode's been spinning in his grave for some time now.
