Upcoming Publications: March/April 2008

That is a difficult one. My first guess is, it will be Mueller and her ship. Mueller has become a very tainted captain, which could be one reason to kill her. Another one might be that the characters are indeed spread to several places and it might be a good idea to get rid of one of them so that PAD can concentrate on others that offer more potential and are more important. I really would like to learn about station Bravo and Shelby`s staff!

Mueller has become "tainted," and that's a reason to kill her?

This sounds like a teen slasher movie. It's always the tainted ones who get snuffed first!

Since I don't, haven't and never will read comics, is the storyline for the IDW comics taking place after MIA or does it fill in the gaps between 2377-80? In other words, do I really need to read them before NF#17?

Did you feel you missed something by ignoring WildStorm's "New Frontier: Double Time"?
That's the time travel one, right? Where PAD brought them all to the end of the Dominion War? No, I don't think I missed anything there, but I wasn't into TrekLit as heavily as I am now. But, as these new comics take place immediately after MIA, when NF#17 comes out, there will be a story missing for those that have not read the comics. Had DT been a novel or novella (as Terry Pratchett's Eric was after originally being published as a graphic novel) I would have gone back and read it.

Is it likely that I'll read the comics? No, but stranger things have been known to happen. If I knew for sure what PAD was going to do for #17, then I might not have to decide. I've never liked comics/graphic novels because I believe that they skimp on story and I've never found one that really interested me. That said, if the IDW NF series is well received on here, I might give the first one a try. Failing that, I'll just hope that PAD recaps the events in #17.

If this doesn't make any sense, tough. I've taken time off work because I can't talk and I feel like a Tholian on Andor.

I think Mueller has become too flawed. It makes a certain amount of sense to get rid of her altogether. PAD already did that with Si Cwan - characters who become too tainted are much more likely to die than others.

^ Jeff needs to update his site. :)

It was announced several weeks ago that Shards and Shadows has been pushed back to January 2009.

The voyages... site hasn't been updated in ages I think.

The mirror universe anthology has been delayed. It's coming out in early 2009, january IIRC.

Edit: note to self: never leave the computer for a short time while making a reply, or KRAD will be quicker than you. :p;)

KRAD, Defcon. Thank you kindly.

While unfortunate, it saves me money given every single month from April on for the foreseeable future has a ST book I need to buy. :)

^ Tell me about it. I'm seriously considering getting a job at a pizza place up the street so I can have money for all of this stuff.

^ I know exactly what you mean. Even with a job and very little outgoing I still have to tell myself not to buy this book or that. I just brought the String Theory trilogy last week and I placed in my reading pile thinking, I've still got another 2-3 weeks worth of reading before I even get to them.

Tomorrow, a friend is taking me to a book warehouse where they have 70% off thousands of titles. I know the way I think, I'm gonna need some cash for this trip.

Library?? Bah, my local ones are pathetic at best. Besides, I always donate my old stock to a library periodically anyway, not that it makes much difference.

that's too bad. My local library is alright. Actually, the actual library isn't anything special, but there's a very easy to use inter-library-loan thing going on, so I can get just about anything with ease. And it can all be requested online, so I just drop by the library and pick it up when it gets there.

I get almost all of the hardcover and TPB books that way, as I read too fast to justify paying $25 for 2-3 hours of reading. I then just catch them when they come out in PB, mostly...

2-3 hours for a Trade!? You do read fast. Then again I tend to read in short increments througout the day, I know it's weird but I read during commercial breaks while I watch TV. I found that I get bored when I try to read for long amounts of time, so I tried this and I found that it actually works for me so I've stuck to it. Plus, it actually allows me to get through up to 40-50 pages a day, and for me that is a huge number.

Never read any Trek comics until I was looking for the Andorian one that just came out (still haven't found it at my local shop) and found Double Time. I loved it, made me want to know what will happen in the future with the Enevians (the species Calhoun helped).

Soon to be reprinted in the "Alien Spotlight" trade paperback omnibus from IDW.

and found Double Time.

Good find! I was researching for another thread - only last week, on Amazon's second hand market, the now-rare "New Frontier: Double Time" prestige comic was going for $US 65 minimum, and the reprint (in "Other Realities" omnibus) was about $35.
