Zenkaikon is a very fun con -- I was a featured guest there a couple years ago.

I recall. About a year or so before we moved to Lancaster. And our mutual acquaintance Jonathan Maberry was the writer guest two years ago.

Looking forward to it.

I will be one of the guests at GalaxyCon Louisville this weekend, alongside fellow Trek word-slinger Peter David, and Trek actors Michael Dorn, Terry Farrell, Gates McFadden, Chris Sarandon, Armin Shimerman, Brent Spiner, and George Takei. For myself, I'll be at Bard's Tower, Booth 1140, for pretty much the entire weekend, and I'll also be doing panels. Full schedule on my blog.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I'll be one of the guests at Starbase Indy, alongside Trek actors Mary Cheiffo, Chris Doohan, Tracee Lee Cocco, and Mimi Craven, as well as the great Moxie Magnus! I believe I'll be doing programming, and I'll also have a table where I'll be selling and signing books.

Next weekend is Farpoint in the Hunt Valley Inn in Cockeysville, Maryland, just north of Baltimore. There will be a butt-load of Trek guests there, including actors Mary Chieffo (L'Rell on Discovery), Penny Johnson Jerald (Kasidy Yates on Deep Space Nine), and Anthony Montgomery (Travis Mayweather on Enterprise), and the following Trek authors:

  • Derek Tyler Attico (Strange New Worlds 8)
  • Peter David (New Frontier)
  • Keith R.A. DeCandido (Articles of the Federation)
  • Dave Galanter (Dead Endless)
  • Allyn Gibson (Constellations)
  • Robert Greenberger (Doors Into Chaos)
  • Glenn Hauman (Creative Couplings)
  • David Mack (Destiny)
  • Aaron Rosenberg (The Riddled Post)
  • Howard Weinstein ("The Pirates of Orion")
  • Steven H. Wilson (DC's Star Trek comic)
Hope to see folks there!

Larry Nemecek is going to be at Phoenix Fan Fusion, formerly known as Phoenix Comic-Con, on May 21-24.

Update: Zenkaicon 2020 has been cancelled due to the virus.

Guess I won't be seeing any of you there.

This was a virtual event, but it still counts, I think....

In April 2020, a Stay in Place Virtual Writers Conference was held on Facebook, and one of the talks was a panel on writing media tie-in fiction. It included two Trek fictioneers, myself (Articles of the Federation, The Klingon Art of War) and Kevin Killiany (Strange New Worlds, Starfleet Corps of Engineers), as well as Jonathan Maberry (Planet of the Apes, V-Wars, The Wolfman).

Check the video of the panel out at this link.

There are two big Trek-related online events this weekend.

The first is Shore Leave 41.5, the virtual version of the convention that would've been held in the Hunt Valley Inn this weekend but for the apocalypse. Instead, they're doing an online con (like so many others are), which will include panels, concerts, presentations, and even a virtual masquerade! It'll be held the 10th, 11th, and 12th of July.

Several Trek related things are happening, and here's a partial list of what's happening (full schedule here), with all times Eastern:

Friday 7-8pm: "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" -- Christopher L. Bennett (The Higher Frontier), John Jackson Miller (The Enterprise War), Kelli Fitzpatrick (Strange New Worlds 2016), Michael Jan Friedman (Death in Winter), Dayton Ward (Agents of Influence), and Amy Imhoff (StarTrek.com) speculate about the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds show featuring Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn.

Saturday 1.30-2.30pm: "The Mandalorian" -- Keith R.A. DeCandido (The Klingon Art of War) and Glenn Hauman (Creative Couplings) are joined by Mary Fan, Christopher D. Abbott, and Laura Ware to discuss the Disney+ Star Wars series that took the world by storm last year.

Saturday 4.30-5.30pm: "Picard: A Family Reunion" -- Ann Harding, Tamia Harper, Lorenzo Heard, and Subrina Wood discuss the newest Trek show's first season and speculate about its second.

Sunday 3-4pm: "The Message: Using Your Voice" -- Derek Tyler Attico (Strange New Worlds 8), Rigel Ailur (Strange New Worlds 10), and Paul Kupperberg (Sargasso Sector) are joined by Andrew Hiller and Heather E. Hutsell to discuss the nature of storytelling.

And there's lots more stuff, too.....

Next, on Saturday the 11th, there's also "Day of Honor," an all-day event jointly produced by Star Trek Online, Modiphius (creators of Star Trek Adventures), Hero Collector, and Clear Skies celebrating all things Klingon. It'll be held on the Queue Times Twitch Channel. Here's the schedule (all times Eastern):

3.15-4.15pm: "Star Trek Adventures: Klingon Empire" -- talking about the new Core Rulebook, hosted by Modiphius's Jim Johnson, with special guest Rick Sternbach (designer and illustrator for many iterations of Trek), as well as contributing writers Keith R.A. DeCandido, Kelli Fitzpatrick, and Derek Tyler Attico, and Modiphius folk Chris Birch, Sam Webb, and Nathan Downdell.

4.15-5.15pm: "Hero Collector: Star Trek Online Ships" -- Thomas Marrone of Star Trek Online is joined by Chris Thompson, John Ainsworth, and Hector Ortiz of Hero Collector to talk about starship design, the process of creating the STO Starships Collection, and more!

5.15-6.15pm: "Streampunks: Blood of the Void" -- Meet the cast of the upcoming Star Trek Adventures live roleplay, hosted by game master Eric Campbell, and featuring the players who will perform the roles of the crew of the I.K.S. Borqu': Aliza Pearl, Christopher Eddins, Jade Law, Phillip Jeanmarie, and Quincy Surasmith.

6.15pm-7.15pm: "Star Trek Online: House Divided" -- Discussing the latest STO update, with actors Robert O'Reilly (Gowron) and J.G. Hertzler (Martok) and STO's Mike Fatum, Al Rivera, Scott Boyd, and Thomas Marrone.

7.15pm-8.15pm: "Klingon Culture and You" -- Aliza Pearl of Blood of the Void hosts a talk about portraying Klingons with a bunch of folks from in front of and behind the camera on Star Trek Discovery: Mary Chieffo (L'Rell), Kenneth Mitchell (Kol), Jayne Brook (Admiral Cornwell), Rea Nolan (Klingon dialect coach), Robyn Stewart (Klingon translator), Clare McConnell (Dennas), and David Benjamin Tomlinson (Or'eq).

Una McCormack and @David Mack are going to be taking part in a SDCC@Home panel called Picard 2020: A Literary Retrospective, which according to Entertainment Weekly is supposed to focus on how Picard has changed "on the screen and on the page" over the years.

More babbling about The Klingon Empire Core Rulebook from the fine folks at Star Trek Adventures, this time as part of "Continuing Mission," as Michael Dismuke hosts a panel discussion about the new Klingon book with:
  • Derek Tyler Attico
  • Keith R.A. DeCandido
  • Kelli Fitzpatrick
  • Jim Johnson
  • Aaron Pollyea
