Untitled Robert Hewitt Wolfe project - Possible new show on SyFy

Nice to hear there's more than reality shows in the future from SyFy.

Untitled Robert H. Wolfe Project
The drama from Universal Cable Productions is set in a postwar era in which a newly formed Unity Democracy orders a volatile mix of humans and trans-humans to lead the Starship Defender on an expedition in search of lost worlds requiring law and order. The project hails from Wolfe (Alphas), who is attached to write and executive produce.

I remember ages ago reading about a Syfy producer saying they'd make a new great space opera show - with Star Trek and Farscape name dropped as examples of previous greats.

Naturally, one hears nothing since, and these are probably totally unrelated claims.

But no matter. This is definitely a title to look a lot into.

This sounds almost like a second chance to make Andromeda.

Maybe this project is why Ira Steven Behr left Alphas: to join this new show.

That couldn't be it. The show's only in development at this point, not production, so it's too early for someone to walk away from an actual producing gig for it. Besides, Behr has more seniority as an executive producer than Wolfe, so I don't see them reversing their relationship and having Behr work under Wolfe.

The general belief seems to be that Syfy let Behr go because they wanted (or had a contractual obligation) to keep around the Eureka showrunner who's taking over Alphas now that Eureka's been cancelled. I don't know how much truth there is to that, though.

It does! Hmm, consider me hopeful this gets picked up.

With RHW attached, this has definite possibilities. I hope it gets picked up. And that they let him do what he wants.

Why not let Eureka's Showrunner finish up Eureka? It's still got a season left.

I think it's pretty much done in real life; the episodes just won't air until next year.

Now I'm wondering if this is the answer to "is RHW still involved in Alphas with Behr gone?".

I have a lot more faith in RHW than I do in that description. "In search of lost worlds requiring law and order"? They literally fly around looking for people to impose order on? Do they convert the heathens, too?

Although I can see possibilities in a show where a character or characters who didn't drink the Kool-Aid decide to rebel against this enlightened mission. :techman:

As RJDiogenes said, its last season has already completed filming, even though it hasn't aired yet. Filming on the season 5/series finale ended back in August, even before season 4 had finished airing.

Sounds like a "frontier marshal" kind of thing to me. Or maybe it's about postwar reconstruction, like what my grandfather did during/after WWII: he went into liberated towns in Italy and helped them set up new local governments, thereby restoring law and order.

Whaddaya think Starfleet's mission is? :D As far as we know, the worlds in need of law and order might be Earth colonies who expect a visit from the sheriff every now and then.

That too, that too!!! :bolian:

Sounds like my favorite show 'Space Rangers' except military, not bad but can't they be more specific? A space show should be about something other than space police.
2001 centered around a giant mystery that kept getting bigger. I'd rather see that with trans humans.

Any space opera show on a spaceship has me for at least the pilot episode.

My first thought on reading the description was that this will be about the bad guys from Firefly doing some meddling.

My second thought was that it sounds like Andromeda redone.

My third thought was that I don't care, just so long as it is not a procedural.

I like Wolfe, and miss the glut of space operas that were on television in the 1990s and early 2000s. I'll be there for the pilot episode, if this makes it that far.

Honestly, this sounds like a minorly-tweaked Trek clone, much more so than the various other space franchises of the 90s and early 00s, and time was I'd have lowered my expectations on that basis alone. But in the continuing absence of any actual Trek on television, I'm all for it, at least if the writing proves up to par.
