Celestia is great! It has made for a nice replacement application for my favorite SGI application called Space. I've been playing with that app since the mid 1990s, but Celestia has it beat by miles these days.

This is what that antique software looked like on my SGI Indy workstation.

I like the zooming across the Galaxy, watching the stars actually move relative to my position, and being disappointed when I arrive.

I think the first thing I did with it was look back at the Sun from Alpha Centauri.

That was the first thing I did too.

The second thing was doing the same, from Betelgeuse. (If it still exists, that is. )

Well the ball on the top left is the badass ball of the group of the sorta like the bad sheep of flock or the darkwinged duckling or something along those lines...--Still it was rather easy comparied to some of the animations we work on in Bryce.

same source image just mirrors and filters of light through the various mirrors no smoke yet but that will be soon enough ..

Okay, those are good on symmetry, but you should go back to the more realistic sky and clouds. It was the reflection and lensing of the clouds that was aesthetically pleasing.

that is interesting because i just think the planet-scapes are so dull I mean on sunset is like any other just well some are better but still they have that commonality to them that makes for redundant renders ok back to the sphere things I will try the more aesthetically intense ideas for now.

as it seems there is similarities between apophysis and bryce work what they are I am still thinking about because ., when I do my job I get to think about these things ->)

What makes it interesting is the familiar image of the beautiful sunset lensed and reflected into something exotic, making the familiar unfamiliar. That catches the imagination more than something that is purely abstract.
