Unresolved Trek trailer questions

Kirk says "buckle up". Will the Enterprise now have seat belts?
Kirk has refused to wear a seat belt since he was a young boy. Didn't you see Kirk fly out of the Corvette and almost fall off the cliff? Some people never learn.

Question: In the Star Trek universe, Earth has abolished money (I guess everyone works because they enjoy it). At the beginning of the trailer, it shows Kirk speeding in a Corvette and trying to outrun the police. Have they done away with speeding tickets in the future? What can that cop do to Kirk? In the future, do we all do prison time for our petty crimes since there are no monetary fines?

I don't think they've really gotten rid of money. There are numerous examples of Federation citizens spending it, talking about spending it, and talking about earning it. Its probably just a very different economic system than we're used to. They also seem to have done away with cash and coin.

A few observations:

1. I got the distinct impression that young Kirk drove that car off the cliff deliberately, probably as an act of defiance against the abusive uncle we've been hearing about.

2. I'm surprised no one else has noticed this, but there are more of those huge, shadowy tower things visible on the horizon in several of the shots of the Vette racing toward the quarry.

3. According to reports from Abrams' european press tour, there a scene where Kirk gets in a fight in a bar with several Starfleet officers, after which Pike takes him aside for a little talk about his future, possibly the same talk we hear in the trailer voiceover. In the scene where Kirk pulls up on his motorcycle to observe the Enterprise (presumably) under construction, he is clearly sporting a fat lip and bruise on the left side of his face. I seem to recall something about the bar fight taking place outside Starfleet Academy (canonically located in San Francisco), which suggests the shipyard is near there as well.

4. The same shadowy tower things are visible in both the Iowa (?) and San Francisco (?) scenes, possibly suggesting that both are actually in Iowa or both are in San Francisco. Or maybe that those tower things are just all over the place. The Vette scenes were filmed in Bakersfield which was reported to be a stand-in for Iowa, so my money is on the third option.

My impression as well. Probably meant to roll it in safely, but getting chased by the cop precluded this. Hence, in true Kirk form, he found a way to do it anyway.

I noticed that, too. The gigantic tower thingies are almost certainly in Iowa. The shipyard... unsure.

Good eye noticing the fat lip. I'm betting the shipyard scene is where he goes to think about what Pike said to him after the fight.

Wh would have thunk of that? A trailer, of all things, that does not (N-O-T) answer questions like, at all...

BOYCOT NOW!

/jus' messing whitcha, y'all.

People keep mentioning shadowy tower things.

Are these the soft-focus, bluish-black things on the horizon as Kirk rides by on his motorcycle?

Guys, those are clouds. Thunderheads. An approaching storm. They appear to be coming out of the ground because the bottoms of them are still over the horizon, very far away.

Here is the same weather phenomenon seen in daylight.

No, these structures were enormous and angular shapes along the horizon and hazy with distance. Not at all cumulonimbus, these things had a look of structure ... vertical with right and 45 degree angles with sharp corners.

I proposed in another thread that they were arcologies.

Sorry guys, but my english is not good.

What was trailer voiceover saying?
what were Spock and Kirk talking about in the scene?

Not true, the road ends there

This just ocurred to me...
maybe the tall buildings we see in the car chase and later on the "Kirk on his bike" scenes are pylons, supporting some sort of hi-tech, miles-high, bridge or motorway?

Is Kirk even on Earth when the car incident happens ?

Maybe he's on Tarsus IV and the cop is one of Kodos' "nazis"

Starships aren't built in Corn Country.

Right, they're made in Detroit, by General Motors.

The Enterprise was a Chrysler Constitution-class.

No. I doubt that. Starfleet doesn't have to go hat in hand to the Government for a bailout because it's been building Starships that nobody wants to fly.

But I did notice that the E has fins. Nice touch. Maybe the Enterprise is one of GM's new "Volt" starships. Just pull up to a Starbase and plug it in....

Look folks, one of the guys posted the possibility that the director and writers are taking liberties about where the E was built.

There are some things that can be screwed around with that aren't important to ST history, but San Francisco is pretty central to Trek History.

Starships aren't built in Corn Country.

:wtf:

Wanna step outside and say that? ( :) )

Sorry, but at 7-4, the Iowa Hawkeyes need to butch up a little bit to make the New Year's Day post season, especially that all-important Vulcan Bowl.

What do want to bet that by the 23rd Century, we still have the deeply corrupt Bowl Championship System?

Didn't Picard once mentioned that the atmosphere of Earth was controlled environment? Maybe the towers are those devices.

Or they could be pollution or radiation scrubbers.

I'm thinking the cop is just wearing some Iron Man-style mask that displays all kinds of readouts and info inside.

Although I wouldn't be horribly upset if it turns out to be an android. If they can build giant starships and develop warp drive and transporter technology in that time, surely they'd be able to create an android cop.

I kinda had that impression, too!
