Unresolved Trek trailer questions

You know, it's even possible - if the rationalization would make people more comfortable - that the Corvette is a replica. There are people now who build and sail replica ships based on designs from hundreds of years ago.

Either way, I kinda like it. It fits in with Kirk's fondess for antiques.

Why would they build a starship in Iowa?

They didn't. Kirk obviously motored to the Bay Area to see his ship to be.

I just don't get why there's so much going on in Des Moines.

I swear to God, if I find out that JJ has had the Enterprise built in Des Moines I will reach for my revolver. Starfleet just didn't start building Constitution Class Starships outside of Des Moines because they knew that one day, some day, little Jimmy Kirk would be born there.

The E is supposed to be in and of San Francisco. Starfleet is centered in and around the Bay Area. It's one of the totemic facts of Star Trek. The E was built in the San Francisco Navy Yards.

Period.

Not in the Back Forty near Ma Kettle's manure pile out near where the hogs feed.

Are you being sarcastic?
I really can't tell for certain on a messageboard.

Yeah, it does not matter at all where the Enterprise was constructed.

Soory Matt, I agree with you on most things about this but you as well as I know that the "E" is not constructed in Iowa, but San Fran. It is however supposed to have been in service years before Kirk takes command. But apppearantly Abram's love for the characters overirdes his devotion to the ship that MOST fans have.

Mr. Orci told me that any changes to canon will have an explanation based in canon. I hope there is a good reason that the Enterprise is conveniently being constructed in Iowa where Kirk grows up. However, I am holding out hope that people around here are taking the scenes in the trailer out of context and that scene does in fact take place closer to San Francisco.

The trailer does not give any indication as to where the Enterprise is being constructed, it just shows Kirk motoring along on his bike and then coming to a stop at a place that overlooks the construction site of the Enterprise.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I thought read a post where a poster implied that the ship was being built in Iowa.

People say a lot of things.

I saw no indication in the trailer as to where exactly the Enterprise is being built.
Could be in SF, Iowa, Italy or Iran for all we know:p

I just watched the trailer again, and it never explicitly states that production takes place in Iowa. The first scene has baby Kirk driving through a desert in the car, and the next scene is older Kirk riding his motorbike through a heavy fog and eventually arriving at the construction site of the Enterprise.

I think you're probably right, here. We see Kirk in Iowa, and then we see him riding, and then we see him looking at the ship being constructed. What we don't know is where that is, but I suspect it may not be Iowa and may in fact be the San Francisco Navy Yards (possibly even on the same site as the old Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard.)

We're all still guessing at this point, though.

I was watching the trailer again, and if you look in the background you can a suspension bridge of some kind. I cannot see any more than just its faint outline
