love the explanation of why its always a police box
It took me a couple minutes to place it, but I think that was probably a bit of a shout-out to the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation-built drinks dispenser on the Heart of Gold in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which conducted a similarly exhaustive analysis of the perfect customized drink to produce for a user before coming out with a cup of undrinkable dreck identical to every other cup of undrinkable dreck it had ever made. Still a funny gag, though.
Ahh yes, the Nutri-Matic drinks dispenser. Here is the description from the book version of HHG -
Douglas Adams said:He had found a Nutri-Matic machine which had provided him with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea. The way it functioned was very interesting. When the Drink button was pressed it made an instant but highly detailed examination of the subject's taste buds, a spectroscopic examination of the subject's metabolism and then sent tiny experimental signals down the neural pathways to the taste centers of the subject's brain to see what was likely to go down well. However, no one knew quite why it did this because it invariably delivered a cupful of liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea
..
The Nutri-Matic was designed and manufactured by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation whose complaints department now covers all the major landmasses of the first three planets in the Sirus Tau Star system.
Quantum Penguin said:In the clip between Eleventh Hour and Beast Below, did anybody else notice the Latin position indicators on the throttle when 11 stops the TARDIS (at ~2:24)? I can't make out the "all stop" position but the opposite position is "avanti" which means either "forward" or "before" and the middle one is "folle", which means "idle" in the context of a gear wheel, but also means "mad man"
Nice pickup, and a very clever in-gag.
Great clips BTW. It's a shame these weren't included in the broadcast copy or re-instated on the DVD release.
