Unknowns For Star Trek Could Ensure Success.

I have always wanted them to get unknown people like the homeless on the streets of America or the people who starred in bumfights for a hot bath and some soup to be in nuStar nuTrek.

Everyone would want to see such a film because of the novelty element and of course you would be doing a social service as well by dragging these people away from the gutter. The word of mouth would guarantee success for the next film.It could also set a new trend and bring the cost of making films down as these people would be satisfied with maybe only a $100000 instead of the multi-million dollar paychecks by so-called stars.

The homeless bums would bring a hard raw edginess and gritty realism due to their experience and would be more realistic.

I understand directors who use unknowns very often discover great acting talent and a hunger for success. Many films have been made in which homeless kids/people were put into films which were universally praised by critics and made a great acting debut.

I am sure you can think of many such films.

What do you people think of this idea which I urge you to take very seriously.

Paramount want's to bet the farm tho'....
So if it fails, they can stop making Trek....
See the plan is to make it a huge failure so they'd have a reason to no longer do it....
"It's too expencive" will be thier excuse for stopping....

Mark my words this is CBSmount's short term plan.
The Plan : To kill Trek once and for all.

They could far easily kill Star Trek by not making more than making a potential set up movie with over a hundred million invested in it...

Wasn't Star Trek already lying there mortally wounded after Nemesis and Enterprise (and even Voyager to some extent). If Paramount did nothing, Star Trek would have surely died on its own -- plus they would save $150 Million, as pointed out by the post above mine.

;) Have you ever seen The Producers? In that play (and movies) two Broadway producers thought that if they intentionally created the worst Broadway Musical ever, it would be a total flop and close down after opening night - but the producers would keep all of the investors' money, and thus get rich. The only problem with their scheme was that the play became a hit and they couldn't close it down.

Maybe Paramount should be making 'Springtime for Romulus' rather than Abrams' Trek film. :)

I can't figure out the logic of thinking that a studio wants to kill a franchise that by all accounts is still making s**tloads of money and is doing no one any harm. News flash -- even the hated Nemesis and Enterprise are commercially successful ventures, generating revenue for Paramount through syndication and DVD sales. Why "kill" anything?

Cheers

Me neither.

I also look at the merchandising side of it, too. Think about it: movie action figures, t-shirts, posters, novels and other memorabilia. If they do this right, there's a ton of money to be made as Trek becomes popular again. That, of course, is great for us Trek fans. It ensures a solid financial future as long as that mindset is maintained. There will always be bitter Trek fans who refuse to accept anything not tailored to their own specifications, but then, there have always been such Trek fans, and seeing them shirk a movie because it's not the preconceived notion they think it is well before the movie is even in production, then that is their own problem and I can simply ignore them. If I'm wrong and Trek XI fails, then I'm wrong and Trek XI fails. I get the feeling though that there are Trek "fans" who would take great pleasure in seeing it fail, if only to be correct, and if that's what constitutes fandom to them, then they can have it. I for one am excited about the possibilities this movie can bring to Star Trek's future.

You know what? They don't ever have to do another Trek movie. And they don't have to give anyone a reason for not doing one.

And why would they do that? Businesswise it makes zero sense. Besides you can't kill something that's already dead.

What about answering to shareholders? Particularly shareholders who think there's still money in Trek?
