Unique photos taken of the TOS cast for Movieland Wax Museum

It's also interesting to see them obviously miming their various stations on the bridge: Nimoy looking into Spock's hooded viewer at the science station, Shatner at the Captain's chair, Takei and Koenig at the helm/navigation console (Although Koenig seems to think it was lower than Takei does), Kelley and Doohan standing by. I wonder how much they had to adjust the postures on the final figures?

Seems like today they'd just go to TrekCore and pull any number of episode frames.

Maybe, but there's no substitute for being able to take your own photographic reference of the real actors, with control of the lighting and poses, and being able to direct them yourself.

WILL YOU JUST HAND ME THE DAMN REMOTE. AND WHERES THAT BEER

Keep coming back to view these. A couple thoughts:

1. It's interesting that they were photographed in appropriate "poses", i.e. Shatner looking heroic sitting in his chair, Nimoy bending over in one shot (in case they posed him looking at his scanner), Koeing and Takei with their hands out as though at their consoles. etc. As though capturing the actors' true body language was as important as their faces.

2. Shatner in one close-up shot especially, look "waxen" enough.

I remember that exhibit. I have photos of it somewhere in storage. I'm going to have to dig out the old photo albums and see if I can find and post them.

Makes me envision what the cast would've looked like for an early '70s Trek revival. Shatner is foreshadowing his short-sleeved TMP look and De Kelley in that turtleneck with bellbottoms looked ready to step right into sickbay. I always thought Doohan looked great in the '70s with the mustache in TMP and earlier in Jason of Star Command.

This was apparently before Nimoy's "I Am Not Spock" and later "I Am Not Spock Unless There's a Feature Paycheck Involved" phases.

One thing I don't know about is what, if any, compensation was provided to the cast members for the photo shoots. If there was and if it was on some kind of a sliding scale and if Nichelle was at the bottom of it that might explain why she refused to participate.

Went to a wax museum in the Orlando area in the late 80s I suppose it was and it had a Star Trek display and it was the most god-awful thing you ever saw. Did anybody ever see that while they were on a Disney vacation by chance?

Thanks for posting those pics.

I have to say that the cast comes across as a bunch of washed up actors. The pics are not flattering, although Shatner and Takei don't look worse for wear. There is a certain sadness that comes through the photos of Nimoy and Kelley.

Shatner looked pretty good - I think he chose hair that was most similar to his TOS style.
Hard to believe that's an early 1970s shot of Doohan - looks more like his TWOK appearance. He looked a lot better in TMP.

No you are wrong. Those pictures are clearly representative of washed up actors -- it's obvious.
Whenever I see washed up actors that's exactly what they look like.

Stark lighting and neutral expressions aren't flattering to anyone.
That's how one is expected to look for passport photos.

I give them credit for allowing themselves to be vulnerable like that. How many celebs spend God knows how long posing for selfies? Most of them wouldn't have the guts to be seen so 'raw'.
