Uniforms

Very convenient, but it would save the day. They could even create an inside joke: other ships' crews would wear The Cage uniforms, and they would complain about the fact that the crew from Discover has sleeker newer uniforms..

Complain? Why would you complain when your uniform is already awesome?!

Erhm, we all love ST, and we go to great lengths to excuse any detectable flaw; those uniforms may be adored, iconic and loved, but they surely weren't beautifully made or designed, especially those from the Cage...

I would love to see something influenced by The Cage uniforms, but more sleek and fitted, and with texture-detailing like the ST09 uniforms or DCEU Superman. No utility coveralls for the officers, and no shoulder piping, please.

I prefer creativity over slavish adherence to canon. If they come up with a cool, new uniform but it looks nothing like TOS or The Cage, I really don't care. I just hope it looks good.

Very eloquent. I hope that in this golden era for the tv series, they will manage to pull something interesting. In the end, we all loved ST despite the papier-mâché, and because of the stories and how they were written.

What about alien uniforms? Would you like to see costumes similar to Klingons or Cardassians from DS9, Andorian or Vulcan from ENT, or more like the dudes in the JJ-Abrams movies?

I may only speak for myself, but if I could I'd put into oblivion the whole Abramesque production. Sorry I had to say it. :brickwall:

I think they will re-imagine the uniforms to have a proto-TOS look. One problem I see are the uniforms of the J.J.-verse. They look absolutely slick. It is what I want to see in a series, but I know it will never happen.

I agree. I love the ENT uniforms (I even use them in STO). I wouldn't mind them thinking outside the box if they came up with something striking like that.

Agreed.
As an aside, in the novels set after the founding of the Federation (Star Trek: Enterprise: Rise of the Federation), author Christopher L. Bennett uses a uniform that is an amalgam of all four founding species, with a touch of USS Kelvin: https://christopherlbennett.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/earlystarfleetuniform1.jp

^ My favourite aspect is that it's four department colors. I ever liked the engineering and security sharing shirts.

Am I the only one who thinks a new uniform design would actually be more believable in context with canon? Canonically the TOS-movie era uniforms were in use for the longest period of time (at least up until 20ish years before TNG based on Deanna's dad wearing one) and they were completely different. It seems the rainbow jumpsuit style was only used for the decade or so around TOS, then fell out of favor for a century until it was revived in the TNG era which again only lasted for a few decades before it reverted back to a predominately-single-color two-piece uniform again. It's just not a popular design.

Plus, we know that each ship was already using individual badges in the ENT to TOS era. It would not be much of a stretch to retcon that the whole TOS-style itself was limited to certain ships or classes of ship.
