Unexpected Doctor Who reference

My wife enjoys watching house hunting shows on the H&G Channel. So this couple on the programe is being shown a house and comments on the size. The outside looking deceptively small compared to whats inside. The realtor replies "Yes, its a bit like a TARDIS. It goes on and on."

You get loads of them, at least on Radio 4 comedies.

"We were promised Alana Titchmarsh as the star guest on my last cruise. We got someone from Torchwood instead." Ed Reardon's Week, tonight.
Fags, Mags and Bags: The local vicar is a Doctor Who fan. So is the local mullah. When they're both going to a convention, it's war: "I'm going as a Cyberman... if he hasn't bought all the tinfoil in Glasgow!" "Bit predicatable, Father? He's going as Mestor the Gastropod." "That SLUG!!!".
Down the Line: Spoof Radio 4 phone-in - the host has slowly been outed as a fan, and one episode last run ended with a five minute discussion about whether Logopolis was a sufficiently heroic end for the Tom Doctor...
And much more.

It's been a really common expression here in Aus for yonks (since at least the mid eighties) for someone to equate anything larger than it's appearance would suggest as being 'like a TARDIS'. Even ppl who have never watched Doctor Who use it - such is the depth to which the show has permeated our cultural subconscious..

Just saw an unexpected ref/ripoff this afternoon- Murdoch Mysteries just had an episode involving a stolen Old Master (a Rembrandt this time, not the Mona Lisa) and half a dozen copies waiting to be sold to people who each thought they'd be buying the stolen one...

It even gets donated to the Louvre at the end, and I spotted at least one direct dialogue quote from City Of Death...

Just after Terry Nation died, there was a letter in my local paper comparing politicians to Daleks.

Another time the editorial cartoon had two security guards talking about watching for out for strange doctors (it was after the arrest of a India born doctor in Australia belived to be connected to Glasgow Airport bombing) and right next to them is the TARDIS.

There was a reference in Mitchell and Webb the other day. About killing off Adric and playing silence over the credits.
