The big question mark in the Underworld mythos is Amelia, the third Elder. We still know next to nothing about her. Maybe there's a prequel there?

I was hoping that we got to see Amelia, but I checked out both Underworld and Evolution today and I remembered Vicktor talking about their rules-1 elder awake and 2 asleep. It's possible by the time of ROTL, which had to have taken place after the prologue in Evolution that that rule had already been put in place.

That being said it would be cool to have learned more about Amelia. However, I don't think Underworld needs another filmed prequel. There is a wealth of backstory that could be explored in novels and comics. I think the movie franchise should move forward.

I'm wondering if every BSG fan here is going to avoid this one on principle.

What principle would that be?

Apparently they showed a lot of commercials for this movie during BSG or something........Just smile and nod.

As a huge fan of BSG, that's a reason to see the movie, not avoid it, even if it turns out to be a piece of shit.

They supported the webisodes with their advertising dollars. They scratched my back, so I'll scratch theirs.

Going to see the movie in a few hours, even though it doesn't look that good. (Mostly because my friends want to see it.)

Minor spoiler for the new movie:

Oh, Marcus and Amelia were definitely hibernating during the new movie. That's why Tanis had to transport their coffins away from the castle during the final battle.

Great! Hope you like the new book. It was definitely a unique experience, writing a novel that completely contradicted my previous book! :)
I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but I forgot all about the novelization! Of course, I haven't been able to get to a book store for 47 days thanks to this transit strike, but I'll definitely be picking it up when I get the chance.

Were you able to slip any minor elements from BLOOD ENEMY into the RotL book at all? Or did you have to make an effort to resist doing so in order to keep the new book fresh?

You caught me. I snuck in a couple of "easter egg" type references to BLOOD ENEMY, like the name of Sonja's mother. (This has never been revealed in any of the movies, but I've been calling her "Ilona" in the novels.)

Incidentally, Kevin Grevioux, who plays "Raze" in the movies, is planning to write some UNDERWORLD comic books of his own. We conferred on the phone to make sure we had Raze's origin straight.

And, yes, his voice really does sound like that!

Well as a fan of this series and the movie in general(saw it twice) I am dissapointed that more people chose to see Paul Blart over this.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans finished 2nd in its opening weekend with an estimated $20.7m. I would love it if Paul was over estimated and Lycans under but the $1m buffer makes any swing in the standings unlikely.

Still with a budget of $35m its highly likely that this will perform well enough to justify more Underworld tales. There is enough material in this franchise for a sequel to this and a prequel. Not to mention what are Kate and Michael doing in the modern day. Three avenues to explore as I see it.

I am disappointed that people chose to see Paul Blart period. Maybe I'll be shocked or something when it comes on video but the trailer looked pretty dreadful. As did Rise of the Lycans but I want to know how much money they spent marketing this movie because those ads were inescapable and not just during BSG.

To Paul Blart veiwers..."I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!! ALL OF YOU!!!"

"ARE YOU SLAVES OR ARE YOU LYCANS?!" :klingon:

(If I never hear those lines again...it's not enough. I want restitution from the studio for their annoying trailer.)

It's "We can be slaves or we can be...LY-CANS!!!"

You obviously didn't see the trailer often enough. :)

"I could have given Lucian over to the council and that would have appeased them. No one need every know of your transgression. However now that the truth of the monstroseity inside you is known I can not allow you to go unpunished"

Because afterall Vampires, Werewolves and Lycans aren't monstroseities.
A hybrid though is.

I was just paraphrasing or somehow slightly overcoming the brainwashing. :shifty:

Paul Blart, Werewolf Slayer would've been a better movie. Bumbling Kevin James dispatches lycanthropes whilst riding a segway.

BTW, at this point isn't Terrence Stamp's involvement in a genre film about as much of a kiss of death as Tim Curry or Ben Kingsley being involved?

I was apprehensive of the fact that no reviews of the movie were being allowed prior to its public release. That's usually a surefire sign that the movie is going to be a bad one.

I went to "Underworld" anyway. Turns out, I'm glad I did. It wasn't half-bad at all — no, it's not Oscar material, but it sure as heck isn't trash, either.

And it definitely beats "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" any day of the week.

I saw this on opening day.

The theatre was only about a quarter full, if that.

I liked the story, the characters, the costumes and the sets.

I felt that the only problems were the editing style during some of the fight sequences and the overall pacing when introducing new characters or new elements.

The editing during some of the fight sequences was the grainy quick cut stuff. It was hard to see.

An example of a character introduction that was done well was Raze. There was enough exposition and time taken during that exposition that we understood who he was. However, the new element of his pending transformation should have been explained to him (and the audience). Granted, this would be a retread of Micheal's exposition in the original movie, but would have been helpful for newcomers.

Character introductions that were not done well were the various members of the council. What was their sphere of influence? Where was the chain of command. The one fella seemed very concerned with the nobles, but why? What was his relation to them. The council was underdeveloped. No wonder Sonja was loathe to take part in it.
