It means the movie isn't finished yet.

when Kirk takes command that the Enterprise is under construction?????

No. Don't panic. Christopher Pike is a character in this movie. Take a stress pill and relax.

seems to follow cannon to me.  :brickwall:

I fail to see what primitive weapons have to do with Star Trek.

One, take it as a metaphor.

Secondly regarding "the canon" (hear the angels sing, alaaaaaaaa...), this film is set in multiple time periods - how the time travel aspect comes into play in these different time periods is unknown. But if we see Pike in the chair as well as Kirk (Pine has already confirmed as much), then ... oh bugger, I'm sick of explaining.

It's a metaphor!

Save all your colourful metaphors until after you've seen the film.

Current projected time for internet implosion: May 9, 2009

Well, I don't think we can conclusively say that it was purely a metaphor.

There's a very real chance that what we saw in the teaser trailer was the in-story version of the Enterprise being built.

This might be confirmed in the final film, or may never be mentioned again (in which case we will never know for sure, absent creator comment on the subject).

I recall somebody over at Trekmovie.com asking whether the construction would be seen in the film. To which Roberto Orci replied, "No comment".

There appears to be scope for the film to do so. Afterall they're showing Kirk at different ages, so why not the ship he goes on to command?

Which wont matter to some people anyway, the ones who still agrue that certain classes arent called what they are commonly known as due to only the designer/production people saying its name and it never appearing on screen

Jeeze louise...am I the only one embarassed by the dramatic tendencies among some of assembled fandom?
