I was just watching 'And the Children Shall Lead" The other day and a little fact stuck with me after it was all over.

They sorta forgot someone!

I mean maybe this has been discussed before, has anyone else ever noticed when The two Security Officers that were supposed to be beamed down to relieve the two guys on Triacus, you know the ones that ended up being beamed out into space cause the ship left orbit?

I mean yeah, those two bought the farm....but it struck me as amusing after the so called fat friendly angel was dealt with and the kiddies all came to terms with their grief and were gathered up by Bones to well get some much needed help...well after all of that, Kirk orders Sulu to set course for Starbase 4...

Um...what struck me as amusing is there are still TWO of his security guys STILL awaiting relief on Triacus

I dunno maybe I missed it and well the episode isnt the best of TOS but it kinda stayed with me.

Who picks up those guys? Do they have to wait til the ship goes to Starbase 4 and then comes back? Shouldn't they call the fellows? The ship has been gone awhile.

Dunno, I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this and can think of other amusing plot slips just like this one?

You're right. I guess this was just a minor continuity flub they hoped nobody would ever notice. I guess when you don't think your show is going to a cult blockbuster seen all over the planet for the next forty years and spawn a multibillion-dollar franchise you don't consider all the goofs and flubs when you're hunkered down in a Desilu/Paramount editing room with NBC censors hovering over you.

Yeah just a simple plain mistake made in an episode that was pretty awful to begin with.

The line about going to starbase 4 at the end is either the last or next to last line. If you cut out that line or if they had looped it to have him say ""set course for triacus" it would have been fine.

too bad that some folks would have a heart attack if the re-mastereds had fixed little stuff like that.

They can fix a glaring error like in 'Is There in truth.." where at the beginng they say there're on the way to meet up with a 'Medusan ship' and at the end of the original they're in orbit of a planet no ship in sight----but it would bring the world to an end if the had looped in a single word to prevent Kirk (and the writers) from looking like forgetful fools.......

Yes, yes I know off-screen there could have been a Medusan ship and off-scrren Kirk could have sent a ship to pick up the two guards, but if these things are all assumed to be corected off-screen then there is no such thing as any error only answers we never saw 'on-screen'

I love when in 'Charlie X' Charlie hurls Kirk & Spock into a wall & the set drywall cracks when Spock's knee hits it
Either they use drywall in 23rd century starships or Spock's knee is DAMN HARD

The guy told me that they'd been using them for years and never clean them, because it doesn't show up on camera. And he was basically right; but I've been thinking that with HD, it's going to show up.

Probably because they are still filming, setting up or breaking sets when the studio cleaners are available.

There was a funny TOS interview about early days on the Desilu sets. If filming went beyond 6pm (or whenever), the studio was charged overtime by lots of organisations - and Lucille Ball herself used to turn up on the ST sets with a broom, sweeping the floor, to hurry things along.

I haven't watched it for years, but I seem to recall seeing visible prints on the dusty floor in "The Empath" -- not the lab set in the teaser, but the blackout set where Kirk, Spock and McCoy are seen lying on the floor just after the title and credits.

They called somebody else to do it as they were out of position? and somebody else was closer. They probably called for help or back up themselves and were being followed up upon. They're a starship. They got much more important business to handle.

I remember an episode where the big three beam down to a planet (name and episode eludes me at the moment.) and one redshirt (Ensign Expendable). Upon materializing Spock wips out the ole tricorder and scans the area.

Where upon Kirk says "Report Mr. Spock."

Spock's line... "No intelligent life in the immedate area."

I just about fell over, I've seen it a couple of times and it still makes me laugh.

As well as Shatner's obvious handprints where he took different takes of the fall from the winding staircase...they're sorta plain as day.
