UK Miracle Day thread?

Or is everyone just gonna talk in the existing one? :)

Happy to discuss it here.

The remove the head bit was disturbing. But the guy (terrible sound quality on my tv, didn't catch any names) trying to get to Wales was hilarious.

"Whats this? I have to pay for the bridge?"

Very good 10/10 RTD, you may bring us more Dr Who.

^^Yes we got it tonight.
^ Yeah the whole bridge thing was very funny.

Wasn't perfect, but on the whole the good far outweighed the bad.

Gwen holding a gun in one hand and a smiling baby in the other might be the most adorable thing I've seen all year!

And damn Bill Pullman is creepy!

Glad you guys are finally getting it. If I have to guess (going by Who threads, which are the reverse), the volume might not be that great in its own thread (and it's sometimes worth being able to look back at all the commentary you've missed).

Although it didn't happen with series 6.1 because it was what, a matter of hours between broadcast over here and over there, series Five had separate discussion threads between British and American viewers, not sure what previous series was hough.

So anyway, my point is that I think there should be a separate thread due to that, but it's highly unlikely as we probably don't give that much of a damn really to create one.

I really enjoyed it and OH actually sat down and watched it, which is practically unheard of. I thought the CIA not dead guy who went to Wales was a complete ham, frankly. Everyone else was pretty good. Very original storyline which is pretty amazing in this day and age.

I never could swallow the idea that Torchwood operated out of Cardiff to save the world over and over. Sorry. It was great for Cardiff but it was too much of a suspension of disbelief. I always thought Torchwood should be in a big Universal Soldier-type truck, roaming the world.

you mean a big Trap 1 from UNIT type truck, don't you?

i enjoyed it, but man, blown-up guy was major squick. Squick factor 7...

nice to see Andy...no longer PC Andy...

What? Why? Why on earth does it require a suspension of disbelief for Cardiff to be home to an alien-fighting organisation? The only remaining branch of an alien-fighting organisation that had several UK sites after being set up by the Queen, as I recall. Oh, and it's right on top of a rift in time and space, from which come many of the threats of the series. Sounds like a pretty sensible place to set up shop to me.

And it's always been a nice change from every TV show on the planet being set in New York, LA or London as well.

I also enjoyed this episode but thought the CIA guy was absolutely dreadful. I hope the Americans bring more to the table than just flashier explosions, though.

Yes, he was very annoying. But I don't see why it's any more difficult to suspend disbelief than anywhere else.

It wasn't so much that it was based in Cardiff, it was more that every end of the world situation was happening in Cardiff.

I was going to start a thread about this, but it's too minor a question to bother with that. There's been some talk about differences between the UK and US versions - I'm curious as to whether the actual episode title "The New World" appeared on screen in the UK broadcast of episode 1? It did not appear in the US/Canada broadcast. Although UK series have gotten into the habit of not showing drama episode titles on screen like the Americans have pretty much stopped doing, Torchwood and Doctor Who have bucked the trend and have continued to show episode titles. Or at least, TW has until now (even with Children of Earth they still used Day One, etc.).

It occurs to me that just as the US/Canada version of Doctor Who now has a specially made prologue with Amy explaining what the show is about for people too dumb to use Google, it wouldn't surprise me if the UK version shows the episode titles, and the US version doesn't.

It's a very minor thing - just curious.

Alex
