UFP Anthem

If the Federation Anthem did have lyrics, I suppose it'd be like this. Imagine the italics to be strikethrough.

United forever in friendship and labor,
Our mighty republics planets will ever endure.
The great Soviet Union Federation will live through the ages
The dream of a people
Their fortress secure

Long live our Soviet Motherland Federation land!
Built by the people's mighty hand!
Long live our People, united and free!
Strong in our friendship tried by fire!
Long may our crimson azure flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all men to see!

Through days dark and stormy
Where Great Lenin Archer led us
Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above
And Stalin James Kirk our Leader
With faith in the People,
Inspired us to build up
The land that planets we love

Long live our Soviet Motherland Federation land!
Built by the people's mighty hand!
Long live our People, united and free!
Strong in our friendship tried by fire!
Long may our crimson azure flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all men to see!

We fought for the future,
Destroyed the invader Romulan,
And brought to our homeland homeworlds
The Laurels of Fame
Our glory will live in
The memory of nations
And all generations
Will honor her name.

Long live our Soviet Motherland Federation land!
Built by the people's mighty hand!
Long live our People, united and free!
Strong in our friendship tried by fire!
Long may our crimson azure flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all men to see!

^ Indeed, and they have proven to be...effective.

It is also my proud and solemn duty to promote Gul Laser bream to the command of the Galor class battleship the Aman Evek.

Long live Cardassia!

Also just on Sci's version of the Federation anthem, I do like it a lot (mostly because I like the Soviet anthem as a example of the genre) but I think that it works better as a Cardassian one instead.
Imagine if you will a particularly lazy state poet who has been tasked with writing a national anthem and decided merely to change the words of the old Soviet anthem.
Below is how I would imagine this:

United forever in service and duty,
Our mighty union will ever endure.
The great Cardassian Union will live through the ages
The dream of a people
Their fortress secure

Long live our glorious Union!
Built by the people's mighty hand!
Long live our People, united and strong!
Strong in our Empire tried by fire!
Long may our crimson flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all peoples to see!

Through days dark and stormy
Where Great Akleen led us
Our eyes saw the bright sun of glory above
And central command our leaders
With faith in the State,
Inspired us to build up
The Union that we love

Long live our glorious Union!
Built by the people's mighty hand!
Long live our People, united and strong!
Strong in our Empire tried by fire!
Long may our crimson flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all peoples to see!

We fought for the future,
Destroyed the invader,
And brought to our homeworld
The Laurels of Fame
Our glory will live in
The memory of ages
And all generations
Will honour our name.

Long live our glorious Union!

Long live our People, united and strong!
Strong in our Empire tried by fire!
Long may our crimson flag inspire!
Shining in glory for all Peoples to see!

Nice! Especially the part about "service and duty." :D

Now personally...I liked the idea of using a Communist anthem for the Federation, as well. It seemed to fit! But that's the cynical Cardassian in me speaking again. ;)

I'm not sure of that. It seems to me that the Federation is a more 'liberal' and dare I say PC version of Communism without the hard edges that defined 'real existing socialism'. So the anthem would be a wishy-washy love the world type affair.

The old Soviet themes and leitmotifs suit the Union to a tee, plus soviet propaganda has a certain style that cannot be beat.

If I were being more earnest, I would assume that a Federation Anthem's lyrics would probably be all about unity and diversity and multiculturalism and liberty and sentient rights and exploration.

And it would probably have to be really carefully constructed so that translated lyrics could fit into it for the other three founding worlds' languages, too. In fact, since I subscribe to the novels' depiction of the founding worlds -- that Alpha Centauri, a former United Earth colony, was also one of the founding worlds, and that Alpha Centauri has a large diaspora of Chinese Humans -- I would probably infer that the Anthem is constructed to work in English, Vulcan, Andorii, Tellarite, and Mandarin (at least).

I like that idea...

You can't appreciate the Soviet anthem until you've heard it in the original Cardassian...;)

I would just use "Oh Canada" and replace the word "Canada" with "Starfleet."

It would look like this:

O Starfleet!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Starfleet,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Starfleet, we stand on guard for thee.
O Starfleet we stand on guard for thee.

Not good.

^ Cardassia would be a much better match for that anthem. Although I feel I must point out that some concepts are not necessarily compatible with our collective good, such as "glorious and free." Well, glorious, obviously. What true Cardassian would not seek such a thing for their homeland? But free...I think that such a thing is best taken in moderation. After all, a society that is too free will collapse into anarchy. Order and stability, that is the true freedom! :cardie:

Behold the superior Cardassian version:

O Cardassia!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True State strong and proud!
From far and wide, O Cardassia,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and strong!
O Cardassia, we stand on guard for thee.
O Cardassia we stand on guard for thee.
