U.S.S. Loknar 2D WIP Thread (FASA)

Well, I couldn't stay away from this one, lol...

I decided to put the Gemini to the side for a while, and further my practice with the U.S.S. Loknar, one of my favorite FASA designs, and one of my all-time favorite fanon TOS-era ship designs. So, here is the "official" start of the Loknar project...

I'll do the basic top profile next, and then the bottom, side, and aft.

More of a 'display in text' piece, but thought you might like it... the Loknar always had a special place in my heart after having so many campaigns in it.

Vance! Great to see you in this thread! It's actually your pilot-era Loknar plans that I'm using as a ref.

Loknar was one of my drawings that I spent a LOT of time on to get right. FASA's lines never did quite work until the miniature came out for her. :S

I'm very much looking forward to seeing someone else's modern take on the girl.

Thanks... I agree that the design could use a bit of tweaking... especially the aft area, to make it able to handle a realistic shuttlebay. I am also going to change the NCC number... the FASA Loknar is NCC-2700, but that's too high for the TOS version, if the U.S.S. Excelsior was the NX/NCC-2000, so the Loknar's NCC number will change in my version.

BTW Vance, did you ever make a bottom and aft view of the Loknar at all?

As strange as it might look, the Loknar is really one of the least bizarre looking originals from FASA.

I mean, each page, another more stretched out weird design.

Can't wait to see this one.

As far as the registries, FASA came out with the recognition manuals before TNG, so to them, it could have been fine as a post-TWOK number.

WOW!!!

Guys, great start to the thread...looking forward to the rest. When I was a Trek-master gaming in the FASA RPG during those old college days, our group was attached to a Loknar-class frigate. This thread has awakened those old memories.

Anybody considering a cross-section?

Thank you... I appreciate the kind words.

IDK about doing a cross-section myself... I don't think I want to delve that deeply into this ship. The U.S.S. Gemini (Surya-Class) is the only ship I'm going to do a full set of plans on, both inside and out. I was only going to do the exteriors of the Loknar and Larson.

That having been said... if anyone here on the Trek BBS would like to take a stab at a Loknar cross-section, I'm sure there are folks who would love to see it!

BTW, Kagan... what was the NCC number of your RPG Loknar? If it's below 2000, I'll use that number for the ship in these plans, as a nod to honor your RPG ship.

Thanks, guys.

No, ATM I'm not planning of doing any TMP-era ships or refits... just TOS ships. If I ever did do any TMP-era ships or refits, the Loknar wouldn't be among them, because that'd open up a whole can of worms that I don't wanna deal with, because unfortunately, a lot of fans got caught up in the belief that the U.S.S. Phobos is a "Loknar refit", of which it most certainly is not, so I want to just stay away from all the inevitable comparisons that'd be made to the Phobos.

THIS is the Loknar refit with approval from Dana Knutson (the original FASA artist who came up with the Loknar). Still, focus on the TOS drawings that you're doing - give us all a run for our money!

Honored...but our player group decided to use an "unused" number on the list...NCC-2714 USS Arkangel (as in Arkangel, Russia...which was keeping in-line with Loknar naming requirement: city within the Federation).

Cross-section...
FASA did a Loknar cross-section in their module "Decision at Midnight." However, it wasn't a detailed cross-section as some that have been found on this board.

I have no problem seeing the Phobos by Kevin Riley as a refit to the FASA-design

this is one of my favs, but I still prefer the Phobos refit

the Phobos is a Loknar refit, dammit

The Phobos is not a Loknar refit... it is the Phobos. I know, because the whole "Phobos is a Loknar refit" silliness began on Sci Fi Meshes way back when, and I was there when it happened. The Phobos design and art was posted, and someone said something along the lines of how it looked like it could be a Loknar refit, even though it was not. But, unfortunately, that stuck, and now a lot of fans think of the Phobos as a Loknar, which it ain't. The Loknar is the Loknar. The Phobos is the Phobos.

In any case, this is why I shan't be doin' a TMP-era Loknar... because of that silliness. Thus, all Phobos-related talk is hereby ended in this thread, lol... I don't want to hear that "other ship's" name mentioned again here. This is for the Loknar... the TOS Loknar.
