Also, I'm wondering... In what way does Gemini differ from Surya (as depicted in Ships of the Star Fleet) other than the absent sensor dish?

Blarg... I'll point out the error in spelling to Charles. EDIT: I informed him about the error.

Well, the detail on the aft saucer is very different from what you had on your Surya, and the warp nacelles are identical to the 1701 warp nacelles... the Surya in Ships of the Star Fleet had minor differences in detailing, as you know. Also, the saucer side airlock/hatch is gone, the impulse engines are identical to the 1701 impulse engines, and there are no Franz Joseph-style phasers.

Well, we DID see the port side in TOS a couple of times. Most notably in "Shore Leave"...


...and the port side of the Mirror Enterprise (which was identical) in "Mirror, Mirror:"


No hatch! It would be weird for there to be an asymmetrical hatch on the TOS Enterprise, anyway. If there is one on one side, there should also be one on the other side. But there wasn't.

Oh, and before anyone says anything, I know that the 11-footer filming model only had one detailed side (starboard) and that they "flipped" the image so that the starboard side could represent the port side. But regardless of how they managed to portray it on screen, it's still a canon representation of the port side, and lacks a hatch.

Well, the only thing I would point out is that these shots of the "port" side disagree with the other shots where we are able to see the windows on the port side of the BC deck or the underside of the saucer. If these shots are port then all of the windows are symmetrical. But we can see from other shots in the series that they are not.

I'm fairly agnostic on a gangway hatch. If anything I figure it's there but we can't make it out.

I'm not totally opposed to adding extra subtle details to the TOS Enterprise either, using that line of thinking. Just so long as nobody tries to TNG-ify it (like adding glowing/blue warp nacelles). But I mostly just wanted to point out to Ray that we did in fact see the port side on TOS.

The TOS Enterprise doesn't really need a hatch on the side, though, because it's got those two inspection doors on the underside of the saucer, anyway.
