I seldom ask for citations. What got people worked up for elsewhere was that I asked for citations for things that everyone just assume was a "fact' that they did not wish to have questioned.

The only reliable source was a NASA article. It describes the dangers of solar storms to astronauts and satellites and that there have been a power as well as a GPD blackout. Nothing about thousands of dead people, the end of the world and the coming of Jesus.

I agree that our nation needs to be prepared for a CME; however, I don't think an EMP attack is likely. The Sun doesn't care about reprisals if it hits our nation with a electromagnetic storm. Another nation would care about reprisals, and the terrorists got lucky on 9-11 because our airport security system was lax and the Bush Administration dismissed the rumors of an imminent attack on this country. The best the terrorists have come up with since is an underwear bomb that may pass screening, if the government hadn't gotten its hands on the bomb because the terrorist was an idiot.

Within a matter of a minute or two after saying that a launcher could be broken/knocked down for surreptitious loading onto a container ship you changed the wording to read "cover with a tarp." You have every right to change your post because it's yours and I can't tell you to do otherwise, but don't tell me you didn't do it. Even if I was the only person on the boards who saw the switch I still saw it.

I don't think protecting against both is a bad idea whatsoever. But a huge CME would be a far bigger problem and for the planet at-large. It's also more likely given the people who would like to launch an EMP attack against us are either not suicidal enough to try it or don't possess the capabilities. The eccentricities of our Sun can be a far more lethal problem than a relatively insignificant nuclear warhead detonated high over the geographic center of the United States.
